Ni(II) and Pd(II) complexes of camphor-derived diazadiene ligands: steric bulk tuning and ethylene polymerization

1998

Abstract Nickel(II) and palladium(II) centers were coordinated to a series of chiral 1,4-diazadiene ligands. The ligand backbones are camphor derivatives and the imine nitrogens are attached to independently varied 2- and 2,6-substituted aryl groups. Upon activation with methyl-aluminoxane, the dibromo nickel complexes polymerize ethylene and 1-hexene. The polymerization properties are dependent on the steric features of the aryl substituents on the imine nitrogens.

Facile Synthesis of Fluorescent Polymer Nanoparticles by Covalent Modification-Nanoprecipitation of Amine-Reactive Ester Polymers

2015

Emission wavelength control in fluorescent nanoparticles (NPs) is crucial for their applications. In the case of inorganic quantum dots or dye-impregnated silica NPs, such a control is readily achieved by changing the size of the particles or choosing appropriate fluorescent dyes, respectively. A similar modular approach for controlling the emission wavelength of fluo-rescent polymer NPs, however, is difficult. This article reports on fluorescent polymer NPs, the synthesis of which provides a platform for a modular approach towards the preparation of fluorescent NPs of desired emission wavelength. Atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is employed to synthesize reactive ester polymers,…

1988

Negatively charged lipid molecules were converted into polymerizable lipids by introduction of polymerizable mono- or bifunctional counterions. As an attempt to mimic the cytoskeleton of biomembranes, unsymmetrical polymeric vesicles were prepared, where the polyelectrolyte is attached either only to the inner or to the outer bilayer surfaces. Polymerizable cations were introduced to the outer surface of preformed small unilamellar vesicles via ion-exchange. The outer counterions of vesicles bearing polymerizable counterions at both sides of the membrane were replaced by Na+. Polymerization of these systems leads to unsymmetrical vesicles. The introduction, separation and polymerization of …

Titanium (IV) chloride complexes with salen ligands supported on magnesium carrier: Synthesis and use in ethylene polymerization

2009

The magnesium support with the formula MgCl 2 (THF) 0.32 (Et 2 AlCl) 0.36 was used for immobilization of salen complexes of titanium [Ti(salen)Cl 2 , Ti(salen(O-Me) 2 )Cl 2 ]. The effects of the catalyst composition (i.e. type of titanium complex and type of activator), polymerization temperature, polymerization time, and the effect of comonomer (1-octene) on the activity of the obtained supported catalysts, on the polymer characteristics (molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, melting point), and on the polymer morphology were studied. The findings were compared to those obtained for corresponding unsupported systems. Catalysts immobilization results in considerable changes in ca…

The CdCl2 effects on synthetic DNAs encaged in the nanodomains of a cationic water-in-oil microemulsion

2011

The present work is dedicated to the study of the interactions of CdCl(2) with the synthetic polynucleotides polyAT and polyGC confined in the nanoscopic aqueous compartment of the water-in-oil microemulsion CTAB/pentanol/hexane/water, with the goal to mimic in vitro the situation met by the nucleic acids in vivo. In biological structures, in fact, very long strings of nucleic acids are segregated into very small compartments having a radius exceedingly smaller than the length of the encapsulated macromolecule. For comparison, the behaviour of polyGC was also studied in aqueous solutions of matched composition. The conformational and thermal stabilities of both polynucleotides enclosed in t…

Characterization of a Double Metal Cyanide (DMC)-Type Catalyst in the Polyoxypropylation Process: Effects of Catalyst Concentration

2014

The alkaline catalysts commonly applied to alkoxylation are characterized by a limited spectrum of activity caused by an irreversible termination of the polyether chains. The presented results show that double metal cyanide (DMC) catalysts reduce or eliminate the aforementioned adverse rearrangement of hydroxyl groups. Moreover, DMC catalysts indicate high activity at low concentrations (ppm range), as expressed by high polymerization rates. It was demonstrated that decreased concentrations of DMC catalyst irreversibly influence its reactivity and the dispersity of the obtained products, as exemplified by the production and determination of selected polyoxypropylenediols at different concen…

Spaghetti Enriched with Inulin: Effect of Polymerization Degree on Quality Traits and α-Amylase Inhibition.

2022

Inulin is considered a dietary fiber and represents a noteworthy ingredient for food biofortification due to its health effects and its neutral taste. The aim of the work was the evaluation of the quality of pasta produced using whole-meal flours of two ancient Sicilian landraces (Senatore Cappelli-CAP and Timilia—TIM) fortified with two types of inulin (long-chain topinambur inulin IT and low-chain chicory inulin IC), at two different levels of substitution (2 and 4%) to evaluate its possible effect on α-amylase inhibition. The color indices L* and a* were mainly influenced by cultivars, while IT improved the sensory attributes, mainly the elasticity sensation, and influenced l…
