Entanglement dynamics of two independent cavity-embedded quantum dots

2010

We investigate the dynamical behavior of entanglement in a system made by two solid-state emitters, as two quantum dots, embedded in two separated micro-cavities. In these solid-state systems, in addition to the coupling with the cavity mode, the emitter is coupled to a continuum of leaky modes providing additional losses and it is also subject to a phonon-induced pure dephasing mechanism. We model this physical configuration as a multipartite system composed by two independent parts each containing a qubit embedded in a single-mode cavity, exposed to cavity losses, spontaneous emission and pure dephasing. We study the time evolution of entanglement of this multipartite open system finally …

Merleau-Ponty's reading of Descartes : from Cartesian duality to the new ontological structure

2019

The duality between the mind and the body has been haunting a wide field of academic discussions since René Descartes’ (1596–1650) philosophy. The problem not only concerns the inexplicable relation between immaterial and material substances, but also the relation between reflective thought and the unreflected experience: there are two fields of evidence which both have their own types of clarity, but which remain obscure for each other. The lived and practical experience is opposed to the objective knowledge of the sciences. Cartesian philosophy is established on the refusal of the non-philosophical life, which, nevertheless, it cannot refuse. This work offers an investigation of Maurice M…

Merleau-Pontyn Descartes-tulkinta : kartesiolaisesta duaalisuudesta uuteen ontologiseen rakenteeseen

2019

Imaging techniques for the vulnerable coronary plaque

2007

The goal of this article is to illustrate the main invasive and noninvasive diagnostic modalities to image the vulnerable coronary plaque, which is responsible for acute coronary syndrome. The main epidemiologic and histological issues are briefly discussed in order to provide an adequate background. Comprehensive coronary atherosclerosis imaging should involve visualization of the entire coronary artery tree and plaque characterization, including three-dimensional morphology, relationship with the lumen, composition, vascular remodelling and presence of inflammation. No single technique provides such a comprehensive description, and no available modality extensively identifies the vulnerab…

Artificially inscribed defects in opal photonic crystals

2005

Opals are three-dimensional photonic crystals, self-assembled from dielectric spherical beads into a face-centered cubic lattice. By introducing intentional defects in the crystal lattice, one modifies features such as spontaneous emission and the directionality of diffracted light. We here present a method for the artificial introduction of a lattice of such intentional defects in self-assembled poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) photonic crystals by means of electron beam lithography. The inscribed defects are of the size of an individual bead, providing a broad spectral range between adjacent resonance peaks. This opens for devices with single line transmission in the photonic band gap, as…
