Candida zemplinina for Production of Wines with Less Alcohol and More Glycerol
2016
We developed a new protocol for winery mixed fermentations, using the selected Candida zemplinina yeast strain Cz3. The results of a two-year study, in which red musts (Merlot in 2010; Merlot, Nero d’Avola and Frappato in 2011) were inoculated with Cz3, is discussed. These wines were compared with wines obtained by inoculation with commercial Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast strains (NDA21 and AR06 in 2010; NDA21 in 2011), or with those obtained by spontaneous fermentation (only in 2011). The inoculation of Cz3 always resulted in a two-phase fermentation: the first phase was driven by the C. zemplinina strain, while the second was dominated by the indigenous S. cerevisiae yeasts coming from t…
Biomarkers and clinical characteristics of autoimmune chronic spontaneous urticaria: Results of the PURIST Study.
2019
Background: Autoimmune chronic spontaneous urticaria (aiCSU) is an important subtype of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) in which functional IgG autoantibodies to IgE or its high-affinity receptor (FcεRI) induces mast cell degranulation and subsequent symptom development. However, it has not been tightly characterized. This study aimed to better define the clinical and immunological features and to explore potential biomarkers of aiCSU. Methods: This was a multinational, multicenter study of 182 CSU patients. The clinical features studied included: urticaria activity and impact (UAS7 and quality of life); autologous serum skin test (ASST); IgG anti-FcεRI and IgG anti-IgE; IgG-anti-thyrop…
Circulating inflammation-related factors are correlated with systemic redox status in IgA nephropathy; a case-control study.
2020
Abstract Background IgA nephropathy (IGAN) is characterized by oxidative stress and inflammation. In the present study, we explored the relationship of redox status vs. that of circulating inflammation-related factors with other biomarkers in patients with IGAN. Methods This is a case-control study comparing patients with IGAN (Stage 1–4) to healthy controls. Forty patients and 40 controls were matched for age and sex. Two circulating dynamic redox parameters were analysed: oxidized free cysteine (Cys) and nitrate. Thirty-seven inflammation-related factors were measured in serum. Results The patients had elevated levels of oxidized free Cys and nitrate, indicating the presence of oxidative …
Female obesity increases the risk of miscarriage of euploid embryos.
2020
Objective To determine whether female body mass index (BMI) is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage after euploid embryo transfer. Design A retrospective, observational, multicenter cohort study. Setting University-affiliated in vitro fertilization center. Patient(s) In this study, 3,480 cycles of in vitro fertilization with preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) in the blastocyst stage and euploid embryo transfer were divided into four groups according to patient BMI. Intervention(s) In vitro fertilization with PGT-A. Main Outcome Measure(s) The primary outcome was the miscarriage rate, which included both biochemical and clinical miscarriages. Secondary outcome…
The Wine: typicality or mere diversity? The effect of spontaneous fermentations and biotic factors on the characteristics of wine
2016
Abstract Wine is probably one of the main fermented beverages for which the recognition of the “territoriality” is fundamental for its appreciation. The sensory profile of wine is significantly affected by microbial activities, and indigenous microorganisms may significantly contribute to the expression of wine typicality. The microbial ecology of wines is complex and includes several species and strains of yeasts, bacteria and molds. Several works showed the positive effects of spontaneous fermentations on the quality of wine as a consequence of the growth of different species and/or strains together at high levels. Furthermore, a new style of “natural” winemaking is gaining importance, si…
Modulation of Neocortical Development by Early Neuronal Activity: Physiology and Pathophysiology.
2017
Animal and human studies revealed that patterned neuronal activity is an inherent feature of developing nervous systems. This review summarizes our current knowledge about the mechanisms generating early electrical activity patterns and their impact on structural and functional development of the cerebral cortex. All neocortical areas display distinct spontaneous and sensory-driven neuronal activity patterns already at early phases of development. At embryonic stages, intermittent spontaneous activity is synchronized within small neuronal networks, becoming more complex with further development. This transition is accompanied by a gradual shift from electrical to chemical synaptic transmiss…
ΔP as a measure of collocation strength
2018
AbstractThis paper explores the proposed benefits of ΔP (delta P) as a measure of collocation strength. Its focus is on contrasting ΔP with other, more commonly used, association measures, particularly transitional probabilities, but also mutual information and Lexical Gravity G. To this end, first the strong correlation between ΔP and transitional probability is illustrated with the help of two exemplary corpora. This is followed by an analysis of hesitation placement in spontaneous spoken English, based on the assumption that hesitations will not be placed within strong collocations. Results show that, despite their strong similarity, in some contexts ΔP is more predictive of hesitation p…
Los programas de cumplimiento penal : Aspectos generales
2021
In Spain, as in many other countries, corporate criminal liability has been a reality for years, as well as criminal compliance programs that allow them to be mitigated or exonerated from liability. In this article we will present some of the main keys to consider for the implementation of these mechanisms. This is a series of general considerations that can serve as a guide to understand the complex system of crime prevention provided by the organization and management models in the corporate environment.
Principal Poincar\'e Pontryagin Function associated to some families of Morse real polynomials
2014
It is known that the Principal Poincar\'e Pontryagin Function is generically an Abelian integral. We give a sufficient condition on monodromy to ensure that it is an Abelian integral also in non generic cases. In non generic cases it is an iterated integral. Uribe [17, 18] gives in a special case a precise description of the Principal Poincar\'e Pontryagin Function, an iterated integral of length at most 2, involving logarithmic functions with only one ramification at a point at infinity. We extend this result to some non isodromic families of real Morse polynomials.
