2020
Body movement has played an important role in music education and there appears to be a consensus that it is one of the most effective means to develop rhythmic skills. In this article, we relate and analyze recent findings of neurocognitive research that support formative actions in this direction. Some results show that the link between sensory and motor systems provides a sophisticated mechanism of temporal prediction and feedback, which has led to the belief that body expression influences the way certain rhythmic elements are perceived. Finally, we propose some suggestions for rhythm education in school and cross training perspectives related to the link between music and movement. El …
Metabarcoding Analysis of Fungal Diversity in the Phyllosphere and Carposphere of Olive (Olea europaea)
2015
The fungal diversity associated with leaves, flowers and fruits of olive (Olea europaea) was investigated in different phenological stages (May, June, October and December) using an implemented metabarcoding approach. It consisted of the 454 pyrosequencing of the fungal ITS2 region and the subsequent phylogenetic analysis of relevant genera along with validated reference sequences. Most sequences were identified up to the species level or were associated with a restricted number of related taxa enabling supported speculations regarding their biological role. Analyses revealed a rich fungal community with 195 different OTUs. Ascomycota was the dominating phyla representing 93.6% of the total…
Bakalaura darba ietvaros, laika periodā no 2017. gada rudens līdz 2018. gada pavasarim, tika analizēti 135 paraugi no septiņām saimniecībām, četros vēsturiskos Latvijas reģionos (Kurzeme, Zemgale, Latgale, Vidzeme).
A minireview on NHE1 inhibitors. A rediscovered hope in oncohematology.
2015
Background: Na+/H+ exchanger-1 (NHE-1) is involved in pH regulation and is up-regulated in different malignancies. Activation of NHE-1 is one way for allowing cells to avoid intracellular acidification and protect them against apoptosis. Inhibitors of NHE-1 are able to decrease intracellular pH and induce apoptosis. Some statins can also act by partial inhibition of NHE-1. This review presents progress in understanding the mechanisms of action of these inhibitors, connections with certain genetic mutations and acquired treatment resistance, as well as new patents on them. Methods: A MEDLINE search for original and review articles using key terms, Na+/H+ exchanger, leukemia, cariporide, and …
Collective Locomotion of Human Cells, Wound Healing and Their Control by Extracts and Isolated Compounds from Marine Invertebrates
2020
The collective migration of cells is a complex integrated process that represents a common theme joining morphogenesis, tissue regeneration, and tumor biology. It is known that a remarkable amount of secondary metabolites produced by aquatic invertebrates displays active pharmacological properties against a variety of diseases. The aim of this review is to pick up selected studies that report the extraction and identification of crude extracts or isolated compounds that exert a modulatory effect on collective cell locomotion and/or skin tissue reconstitution and recapitulate the molecular, biochemical, and/or physiological aspects, where available, which are associated to the substances und…
