Serial position effects in dementia of the Alzheimer type.
1998
Background: The aim of the present study was to analyse serial position effects for immediate and delayed free recall in patients with dementia of the Alzheimer type and controls. Experiment 1: 44 patients with dementia of the Alzheimer-type and 24 non-demented controls were asked for immediate and delayed free recall of 12 schematic drawings of common objects presented at the rate of 10 s/picture. Steep primacy effects were obtained at all delays in controls. By contrast, primacy effects were significantly impaired in patients with dementia at all delays of recall. Small immediate and delayed recall recency effects were found in both, patients and cont…
321. Sea Urchin sns Chromatin Insulator Prevents Silencing and Positional Effect Variegation of Oncoretroviral Vectors Transgene Expression in Murine…
2006
Silencing and position effect are considered significant obstacles to obtain a consistent level of transgene expression in viral gene therapy. Furthermore recent studies had shown that retroviruses tend to land on active genes with the potential consequence of insertional mutagenesis. The inclusion of elements, such as chromatin insulators, capable to insulate a gene from the surrounding chromatin effects at the integration site should improve both efficacy and safety of gene therapy vectors. We have previously characterized a 265 bp insulator element, termed sns, localized at the 3’ end of the early histone H2A gene of the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus. This sequence contains three cis-…

Characterization of a fiber-reinforced new fully aromatic liquid crystalline polymer
1998
A new rigid liquid crystalline polymer that demonstrates good mechanical and thermomechanical properties and acceptable processing temperature has been recently synthesized and characterized. The melting temperature and some thermomechanical properties do not seem, however, suitable for use in some applications at high temperature or in the presence of aggressive fluids. The use of appropriate inorganic fillers can overcome these shortcomings. In this work the new LCP, polymerized in a bench-scale apparatus, and the same sample filled with carbon fibers are characterized. The properties of the carbon fiber filled LCP are compared with those of another filled wholly aromatic commercial LCP,…
