LocalRec 2019 workshop report: The Third ACM SIGSPATIAL Workshop on Location-Based Recommendations, Geosocial Networks and Geoadvertising

2020

The amount of publicly available geo-referenced data has seen a dramatic explosion over the past few years. Many user activities generate data that are annotated with location and contextual information. Furthermore, it has become easier to collect and combine rich and diverse location information. In the context of geoadvertising, the use of geosocial data for targeted marketing is receiving significant attention from a wide spectrum of companies and organizations. With the advent of smartphones and online social networks, a multi-billion dollar industry that utilizes geosocial data for advertising and marketing has emerged. Geotagged social-media posts, GPS traces, data from cellular ante…

Déterminer le goût de l’eau ne coule pas de source

2008

Describing the taste of water is a challenge since drinking water is supposed to have almost no taste. In this study, different classical sensory methodologies have been applied in order to assess sensory features of water. Nevertheless, these methodologies present drawbacks so a new methodology based on the comparison between water samples named “Polarized Sensory Positioning” (PSP) has been developed enabling to easily define the sensory characteristics of water without presenting too many samples. Finally, this new method provides new sensory data and could be extended to other products.

Target 5G visible light positioning signal subcarrier extraction method using particle swarm optimization algorithm

2021

International audience; With the explosive growth of demand for Internet of Things (IoT) applications and the increasing dependence of users on wireless connections, indoor location based service(LBS) under 5G-Public-Private Partnership (5G-PPP) using cases have received more attention and get rapid development. Thanks to the safty, security and customization of 5G network pointed by 5G forum white paper, indoor positioning systems using unified 5G New Radio (NR) signals have become the focus of the next generation of visible light positioning (VLP) systems. In 5G New Radio(NR) frame, totally 192 subcarriers are used to carry positioning reference signal(PRS). In order to improve the positi…

On improving the accuracy of Visible Light Positioning system using deep autoencoder

2020

International audience; DC-biased optical Orthogonal Frequency DivisionMultiplexing (DCO-OFDM)-based visible light positioning (VLP)technology along with the Received Signal Strength(RSS) po-sitioning algorithm is widely used to achieve centimeter levelpositioning accuracy for incoming 5G era, especially indoorenvironment. However, the DCO-OFDM has the peak-to-averagepower ratio (PAPR) issue which imposes the nonlinear distortionand it will directly affect the positioning accuracy in the VLPsystem. The PAPR reduction scheme is urgently needed. There-fore, in this paper, the impact of PAPR reduction scheme onpositioning accuracy is investigated. The positioning accuracywith and without the s…

CAROLS: A New Airborne L-Band Radiometer for Ocean Surface and Land Observations

2011

The "Cooperative Airborne Radiometer for Ocean and Land Studies" (CAROLS) L-Band radiometer was designed and built as a copy of the EMIRAD II radiometer constructed by the Technical University of Denmark team. It is a fully polarimetric and direct sampling correlation radiometer. It is installed on board a dedicated French ATR42 research aircraft, in conjunction with other airborne instruments (C-Band scatterometer--STORM, the GOLD-RTR GPS system, the infrared CIMEL radiometer and a visible wavelength camera). Following initial laboratory qualifications, three airborne campaigns involving 21 flights were carried out over South West France, the Valencia site and the Bay of Biscay (Atlantic O…

Intelligent eye

2010

This paper describes Intelligent Eye, a mobile phone interactive leisure guide that offers location-based multimedia information. The information offered is related to the user's position, so the main goal of this work is the development of an efficient system to detect where the user is pointing his/her camera at by means of a content-based image retrieval algorithm (CBIR). The CBIR procedure uses color histograms in the HS color space extracted from images, and employs Kullback-Leibler divergence as the similarity measure. Intelligent Eye can be used in a wide range of camera-equipped mobile phones; however, efficiency is improved if GPS data is available. In order to outperform other sys…

A one class classifier for Signal identification: a biological case study

2008

The paper describes an application of a one-class KNN to identify different signal patterns embedded in a noise structured background. The problem become harder whenever only one pattern is well represented in the signal, in such cases one class classifier techniques are more indicated. The classification phase is applied after a preprocessing phase based on a Multi Layer Model (MLM) that provides a preliminary signal segmentation in an interval feature space. The one-class KNN has been tested on synthetic data that simulate microarray data for the identification of nucleosomes and linker regions across DNA. Results have shown a good recognition rate on synthetic data for nucleosome and lin…

Using recursive Bayesian estimation for matching GPS measurements to imperfect road network data

2010

Map-matching refers to the process of projecting positioning measurements to a location on a digital road network map. It is an important element of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) focusing on driver assistance applications, on emergency and incident management, arterial and freeway management, and other applications. This paper addresses the problem of map-matching in the applications characterized by imperfect map quality and restricted computational resources - e.g. in the context of community-based ITS applications. Whereas a number of map-matching methods are available, often these methods rely on topological analysis, thereby making them sensitive to the map inaccuracies. In …
