Customer Environmental Values and Their Contribution to Loyalty in Industrial Markets
2015
Concern over the effect of industries on the natural environment is growing on a multitude of levels. This study examines the effects of how perceptions of (a) environmental values, (b) green image and (c) perceived value of industrial customers influence their loyalty towards suppliers in existing relationships, and how the length of B2B relationships may moderate these linkages. A conceptual framework is developed and data are collected from a global sample (N =121) of B2B customers. We find that both green image and perceived value have a direct positive link with customer loyalty and that environmental values are positively linked to the green image of the supplier. Moreover, the effect…
In vivo application and dynamics of lactic acid bacteria for the four-season production of Vastedda-like cheese.
2014
article Twelve lactic acid bacteria (LAB), previously selected in vitro (Gaglio et al., 2014), were evaluated in situ for their potential to act as starter cultures for the continuous four-season production of Vastedda-like cheese, made with raw ewes' milk. The strains belonged to Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris, Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides and Streptococcus thermophilus .L AB werefirst inoculated in multiple-strain combinations on the basis of their optimal growth temperatures in three process conditions which differed for milk treatment and medium for strain development: process 1, growth of strains in the optimal synthetic media and pasteu…
Evidence against a key role for transforming growth factor-beta1 in cytomegalovirus-induced bone marrow aplasia.
1998
During immunodeficiency after sublethal haematoablative treatment, cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection interferes with haematopoietic reconstitution and can cause lethal bone marrow (BM) aplasia. The in vivo model of murine CMV infection has identified the BM stroma as the principal target site of CMV in the haematopoietic cord. The infected cell type is the reticular stromal cell which forms the stromal network and produces essential haemopoietins, such as stem-cell factor (SCF). The expression of SCF was found to be reduced in the infected stroma, but the stromal network was not disrupted and the number of infected stromal cells was too low to explain the functional deficiency. These facts ca…
Locally convex quasi $C^*$-normed algebras
2012
Abstract If A 0 [ ‖ ⋅ ‖ 0 ] is a C ∗ -normed algebra and τ a locally convex topology on A 0 making its multiplication separately continuous, then A 0 ˜ [ τ ] (completion of A 0 [ τ ] ) is a locally convex quasi ∗-algebra over A 0 , but it is not necessarily a locally convex quasi ∗-algebra over the C ∗ -algebra A 0 ˜ [ ‖ ⋅ ‖ 0 ] (completion of A 0 [ ‖ ⋅ ‖ 0 ] ). In this article, stimulated by physical examples, we introduce the notion of a locally convex quasi C ∗ -normed algebra, aiming at the investigation of A 0 ˜ [ τ ] ; in particular, we study its structure, ∗-representation theory and functional calculus.
Some past and present challenges of econophysics
2016
We discuss the cultural background that was shared by some of the first econophysicists when they started to work on economic and financial problems with methods and tools of statistical physics. In particular we discuss about the role of stylized facts and statistical physical laws in economics and statistical physics respectively. As an example of the problems and potentials associated with the interaction of different communities of scholars dealing with problems observed in economic and financial systems we briefly discuss the development and the perspectives of the use of tools and concepts of networks in econophysics, economics and finance.
Chronic myeloid leukemia-derived exosomes promote tumor growth through an autocrine mechanism.
2014
Background Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a clonal hematopoietic stem cell disorder in which leukemic cells display a reciprocal t(9:22) chromosomal translocation that results in the formation of the chimeric BCR-ABL oncoprotein, with a constitutive tyrosine kinase activity. Consequently, BCR-ABL causes increased proliferation, inhibition of apoptosis, and altered adhesion of leukemic blasts to the bone marrow (BM) microenvironment. It has been well documented that cancer cells can generate their own signals in order to sustain their growth and survival, and recent studies have revealed the role of cancer-derived exosomes in activating signal transduction pathways involved in cancer cell…

Degrowth, the past, the future, and the human nature
2012
Abstract In the last years, different sources point to a same message: industrial civilization has entered an overshoot mode, the natural limits to growth have been already surpassed. This frontier does not wait for us in the future; it already belongs to our past. If population and the economy are truly beyond the limits, then current visions and theories of social change would be deeply perturbed. If the development era is approaching its end, then many sociological theories on current societies will share the same destiny, sustainable development doctrines between them. It is worth to examine theories that explicitly look at the social world this way or that – at least – are not incompat…
Sustainable Development Goals and Performance Measurement of Positive Energy District: A Methodological Approach
2021
The “Positive Energy Districts and Neighbourhoods for Sustainable Urban Development” program launched by the European Union can be considered a milestone towards the clean energy transition and carbon neutrality of urban areas. The achievement of this ambitious transition requires properly defined methodologies and action plans grounded on the main environmental, economic, and social pillars of sustainability. This paper is focused on the definition of a methodology for the characterization of PEDs sustainability assessment in terms of Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, the main research question to be answered regards the allocation of the surplus energy of PEDs to target the su…
Quantification of Lung Volume at Different Tidal Volumes and Positive End-Expiratory Pressures in a Porcine Model by Using Retrospective Respiratory …
2008
PURPOSE: This feasibility study in healthy animals should prove the concept that it is possible to quantitatively assess the effects of different ventilatory settings on the lung parenchyma during ongoing ventilation in respiratory gated 4-dimensional (D)-computed tomography (CT). For this purpose, the influence of different tidal volumes and positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) on quantitative assessment of lung volumes (LVs) and lung compartments was analyzed. METHODS: Five anesthetized and ventilated (20 breaths/min, inspiratory/expiratory ratio of 1:2) healthy pigs underwent 16-row multidetector CT with retrospective respiratory gating using a noncontact charge-coupled device camera …
