Brain responses of dysphoric and control participants during a self‐esteem implicit association test

2021

Previous studies have reported lowered implicit self‐esteem at the behavioral level among depressed individuals. However, brain responses related to the lowered implicit self‐esteem have not been investigated in people with depression. Here, event‐related potentials were measured in 28 dysphoric participants (individuals with elevated amounts of depressive symptoms) and 30 control participants during performance of an implicit association task (IAT) suggested to reflect implicit self‐esteem. Despite equivalent behavioral performance, differences in brain responses were observed between the dysphoric and the control groups in late positive component (LPC) within 400–1,000 ms poststimulus lat…

Atomistic Insights into Nitrogen-Cycle Electrochemistry: A Combined DFT and Kinetic Monte Carlo Analysis of NO Electrochemical Reduction on Pt(100)

2017

Electrocatalytic denitrification is a promising technology for the removal of NOx species in groundwater. However, a lack of understanding of the molecular pathways that control the overpotential and product distribution have limited the development of practical electrocatalysts, and additional atomic-level insights are needed to advance this field. Adsorbed NO has been identified as a key intermediate in the NOx electroreduction network, and the elementary steps by which it decomposes to NH4+, N2, NH3OH+, or N2O remain a subject of debate. Herein, we report a combined density functional theory (DFT) and kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) study of this reaction on Pt(100), a catalytic surface that i…

Capsaicin desensitization in vivo is inhibited by ruthenium red.

1990

The effect of systemic administration of Ruthenium Red on the excitatory and desensitizing effect of capsaicin was investigated in rats. Ruthenium Red was injected s.c. 30 min before capsaicin was administered. The excitatory effect of capsaicin on corneal, perivascular and visceral afferents was not influenced by treatment with Ruthenium Red. However, determination of the neuropeptide content and evoked neuropeptide release in peripheral organs and dorsal spinal cord 48 h after treatment showed that Ruthenium Red attenuated the 'desensitizing' effect of capsaicin at peripheral, but not at central, endings of primary afferents. On the other hand, a capsaicin-elicited autonomic reflex mediat…

MONENSIN ENHANCES DIGOXIN-INDUCED ARRHYTHMIAS IN GUINEA-PIGS

1993

Effects of pretreatment with monensin (150 ug/kg), atenolol (0.3 mg/kg), atenolol plus monensin, verapamil (0.38 mg/kg), verapamil plus monensin, glibenclamide(0.38 mg/kg) and glibenclamide plus monensin on the dose of digoxin required to induce premature ventricular contractions (PVCS) in anaesthetized guinea-pigs were studied. Monensin reduced while atenolol increased the dose of digoxin required to produce PVCS. Atenolol plus monensin increased the dose of digoxin required to produce PVCS in presence of monensin alone. Verapamil reduces the arrhythmogenic effect of monensin on digoxin. Glibenclamide antagonises the effect of monensin on digoxin induced PVCS. From the present data it coul…

Preparation of Polymeric Nanoparticles by Photo-Crosslinking of an Acryloylated Polyaspartamide in w/o Microemulsion

2004

Biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles have been prepared by UV irradiation of an acryloylated water soluble polymer by an inverse microemulsion. The starting polymer was a α,β‐poly(N‐2‐hydroxyethyl)‐D,L‐aspartamide (PHEA) partially functionalized with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) in order to introduce reactive vinyl groups in the side chain. The PHEA‐GMA copolymer obtained (PHG) was crosslinked by UV irradiation of the inverse microemulsion prepared by mixing an aqueous solution of PHG with propylene carbonate (PC)/ethyl acetate (EtOAc) in the presence of sorbitan trioleate (SPAN 85) as surfactant. Nanoparticles obtained were characterized by FTIR spectrophotometry, transmission electron mic…

Potential Growth and Business Cycle in the Spanish Economy: Implications for Fiscal Policy

2007

An accurately estimation of the cyclical position of an economy is a necessary condition for the success of fiscal stabilisation policies. In this paper we show that the estimation of the output gap by means of decomposing a production function produces similar results to univariate and multivariate methods, increasing their robustness and allowing us to conclude that most of the information on the economic cycle is included in the cyclical component of the unemployment rate. The results also indicate that there is reduced uncertainty about the periods when the Spanish economy has clearly been in a deep recession or in a sharp expansion. These periods have been limited and of relatively sho…

Market potential estimates in history: a survey of methods and an application to Spain, 1867-1930

2014

New Economic Geography (NEG) models stress the importance of access to demand as a key driver of the spatial and temporal distribution of economic activity (Krugman, 1991). Therefore, in order to test the theoretical predictions emanating from NEG a sound measure of accessibility is required. In line with Crafts (2005b), this paper constructs market potential estimates for Spain at the province level (NUTS3) between 1867 and 1930 using Harris’s (1954) equation. This period is particularly appealing as it was during these years that the Spanish market became integrated thanks to the fall in transport and trade costs. A number of key processes, including the substitution of traditional transp…

Testing the Home Market Effects in a Multi-country World: The Theory

2004

We extend the two-country model by Krugman (1980) to a multi-country set-up and show that the `home-market effect' highlighted with two countries does not readily extend to such a more general setting. In particular, we prove that the most important result, namely the disproportionate causation from demand to supply, generalizes only under the fairly implausible assumption of pairwise symmetric trade costs between all countries. We argue, therefore, that the implications of product differentiation for the structure of world trade are better characterized in terms of spatial (`accessibility') and non-spatial (`attraction') effects, and we provide a theory-based specification that suggests ho…

Ensemble deep clustering analysis for time window determination of event-related potentials

2023

Objective Cluster analysis of spatio-temporal event-related potential (ERP) data is a promising tool for exploring the measurement time window of ERPs. However, even after preprocessing, the remaining noise can result in uncertain cluster maps followed by unreliable time windows while clustering via conventional clustering methods. Methods We designed an ensemble deep clustering pipeline to determine a reliable time window for the ERP of interest from temporal concatenated grand average ERP data. The proposed pipeline includes semi-supervised deep clustering methods initialized by consensus clustering and unsupervised deep clustering methods with end-to-end architectures. Ensemble clusterin…
