The physical and chemical processes of the sea greatly affect the reproductive biology of fishes, mainly influencing both the numbers of spawned eggs and the survivorship of early stages up to the recruitment period. In the central Mediterranean, the European anchovy constitutes one of the most important fishery resource. Because of its short living nature and of its recruitment variability, associated to high environmental variability, this small pelagic species undergo high interannual fluctuation in the biomass levels. Conformational studies into N-methylation of alanine diamide models: A quantitative approach

Abstract A systematic theoretical analysis was performed on N -acetyl- l -alanine N ′-methylamide (Ac- l -Ala-NHMe) and the analogues methylated on the N-terminus (Ac- l -(Me)Ala-NHMe), C-terminus (Ac- l -Ala-NMe 2 ), and both N/C-termini (Ac- l -(Me)Ala-NMe 2 ), to evaluate the influence of methylation of the amide group on the conformational properties of the affected residues. Retinal function assessment in alcohol use disorder patients

Objective. Retinal injury induced by ethanol consumption has been previously reported in animal models, including biochemical, histological and functional alterations. These results need to be clinically tested in alcoholic patients which do not report several systemic or ophthalmic diseases. Methods. Six patients with alcohol use disorder were recruited from an ‘Alcoholism Treatment Unit’. All of them with active alcohol consumption when the study was conducted or that had stopped drinking six months prior to the study, with no ocular disease or visual acuity alterations. Let M(d,n) be the moduli stack of hypersurfaces of degree d > n in the complex projective n-space, and let M(d,n;1) be the sub-stack, parameterizing hypersurfaces obtained as a d fold cyclic covering of the projective n-1 space, ramified over a hypersurface of degree d. Iterating this construction, one obtains M(d,n;r). We show that M(d,n;1) is rigid in M(d,n), although the Griffiths-Yukawa coupling degenerates for d<2n. On the other hand, for all d>n the sub-stack M(d,n;2) deforms. The Effect of Electronic Properties of Anodized and Hard Anodized Ti and Ti6Al4V on Their Reactivity in Simulated Body Fluid

The electronic properties of barrier and porous layers on Ti and Ti6Al4V were studied. Barrier anodic oxides grown to 40 V on Ti and on Ti6Al4V are both n-type semiconductors with a band gap of 3.3 eV and 3.4 eV respectively, in agreement with the formation of amorphous TiO2. Anodizing to 200 V at 20 mA cm−2 in calcium acetate and β-glycerol phosphate disodium pentahydrate leads to the formation of Ca and P containing porous films with a photoelectrochemical behaviour dependent on the metallic substrate. The Thuoux and Saint-Pierre d’Argencon sections (Subalpine Basin, southeastern France) display a thick silty–clayey sedimentation with abundant and diversified ammonite faunas, free of detectable hiatuses. The Callovian–Oxfordian boundary is biostratigraphically located between the Lamberti and the Mariae zones or, more precisely, between the Lamberti Subzone (paucicostatum horizon) and the Scarburgense Subzone (thuouxensis horizon). Correlated barrier hopping in NiO films

The ac conduction in NiO films has been investigated in the frequency range 10 Hz < v < 10^9 Hz and at temperatures between 10 and 300 K. The frequency and the temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity can be consistently explained within a model developed for the mechanism of charge transfer in amorphous semiconductors which proposes that charge carriers hop over potential barriers between defect sites, the height of the barriers being correlated with the intersite separation.
