'TRPing' synaptic ribbon function in the rat pineal gland: neuroendocrine regulation involves the capsaicin receptor TRPV1.
2009
Synaptic ribbons (SRs) are presynaptic structures thought to regulate and facilitate multivesicular release. In the pineal gland, they display a circadian rhythm with higher levels at night paralleling melatonin synthesis. To gain more insight into the processes involved and the possible functions of these structures, a series of experiments were conducted in rodents. We studied the regional distribution of a molecular marker of pineal SRs, the kinesin motor KIF3A in the gland. Respective immunoreactivity was abundant in central regions of the gland where sympathetic fibers were less dense, and vice versa, revealing that intercellular communication between adjacent pinealocytes is enhanced …

Auditory perceptual learning : evidence from electrophysiological recordings in rodents and humans
2018
Yllättävät muutokset äänimaailmassa viestittävät yleensä selviytymisen kannalta tärkeistä vihjeistä, joten niiden nopea ja automaattinen havaitseminen on tärkeää. Tietoinen harjoittelu mahdollistaa havainto-oppimisen ja oppimisen seurauksena hermostoon muodostuu uusia muistijälkiä. Varhaisessa kehityksessä herkkyyskauden aikana muistijälkien muodostuminen, ihmisellä erityisesti puheäänille, on automaattista, eikä siihen vaadita tietoista harjoittelua.

Neurophysiological markers of subjective memory complaints in healthy people
2022
Logistics potentials of success as the factors affecting firm performance
2019
Firms are permanently looking for ways to achieve expected market and economic outcomes, which are the basis for superior performance as well as strong, long-term competitive advantage. The most important market outcomes are: (1) customer satisfaction, (2) customer loyalty, and (3) marketshare. In turn, the most important economic outcomes are: (1) profit, (2) profitability, and (3) return on investment (ROI). In achieving such performance and advantage the important role is assigned - among others - to the so-called logistics potentials of success. Logistics potentials of success are significant parts of the “general” firm potentials of success, which comprise: (1) resources, (2) capabilit…
Chronic neural probe for simultaneous recording of single-unit, multi-unit, and local field potential activity from multiple brain sites
2017
Drug resistant focal epilepsy can be treated by resecting the epileptic focus requiring a precise focus localisation using stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) probes. As commercial SEEG probes offer only a limited spatial resolution, probes of higher channel count and design freedom enabling the incorporation of macro and microelectrodes would help increasing spatial resolution and thus open new perspectives for investigating mechanisms underlying focal epilepsy and its treatment. This work describes a new fabrication process for SEEG probes with materials and dimensions similar to clinical probes enabling recording single neuron activity at high spatial resolution.Polyimide is used as a bi…
Electrofunctional features of the tilted disc syndrome.
1986
The ERG, EOG and VEPs of 15 patients with tilted disc syndrome were studied. The ERG showed abnormal amplitudes in about 1/4 of the eyes and the EOG values were pathological in 3 patients. It is probable that the abnormality of the inferior-nasal portion of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium seen in the tilted disc syndrome causes the changes in the ERG and EOG. Pattern VEPs latency was delayed in most patients. This finding is probably due to the poor focusing of the light in the retina.
Resonance properties of GABAergic interneurons in immature GAD67-GFP mouse neocortex.
2014
Subthreshold resonance is a characteristic membrane property of different neuronal classes, is critically involved in the generation of network oscillations, and tunes the integration of synaptic inputs to particular frequency ranges. In order to investigate whether neocortical GABAergic interneurons show resonant behavior already during early postnatal development, we performed whole-cell patch-clamp recordings from visually identified interneurons in supragranular layers of parietal regions in coronal neocortical slices from postnatal day (P) P6-P13 GAD67-GFP knock-in mice. Subthreshold resonance was analyzed by injection of sinusoidal current with varying frequency. About 50% of the inve…
Emotional modulation of the attentional blink and the relation to interpersonal reactivity
2013
The extent of the attentional blink effect on detection rates in rapid serial visual presentations is modulated by the emotionality of the stimuli. Emotionally salient stimuli are detected more often, even if presented in the attentional blink period, and elicit an enlarged P3 response, which has been interpreted as enhanced consolidation. This effect correlates with individual differences in trait affectivity such as anxiety or dysphoria. Here, we ask if it is also related to the capacity to detect emotions in others, i.e., to interpersonal social traits. We therefore presented emotional and neutral images depicting social scenes as targets in an attentional blink design and measured detec…
