The Effects of Consumer Demographics and Payment Method Preference on Product Return Frequency and Reasons in Online Shopping

2021

In online shopping, product returns are very common. In order to reduce them, one must first understand who are making them and why are they being made. In this study, we aim to address these questions by examining product return behaviour from a consumer-centric rather than the more traditional product-centric, retailer-centric, and order-centric perspectives. More specifically, we focus on the effects of four demographic characteristics of consumers (i.e., gender, age, education, and income) as well as their payment method preference on their product return frequency and product return reasons. As the data, we use the responses from 560 Finnish online consumers, which were collected with …

Demilitarisieren oder entmilitarisieren? : zur Konkurrenzsituation der Präfixe de- (des-) und ent-

2014

Verbiprefikseillä de- ja ent- on osittain päällekkäinen funktio. Molemmilla johdetaan jo olemassa olevista verbeistä uusia verbejä, joiden merkitys kantaansa nähden on privatiivinen tai reversatiivinen. Privatiivinen merkitys on kyseessä silloin, kun johdos ilmaisee kantasanansa tarkoitteen poistamista, esim. deblockieren, entwaffnen. Reversatiivinen verbi puolestaan kääntää kantaverbinsä ilmaisevan prosessin tai toiminnan suunnan päinvastaiseksi, esim. demontieren, entbürokratisieren. Koska molempia prefiksejä käytetään saman merkityksen ilmaisemiseen, on tiedettävä, mitkä säännöt niiden valikoitumista säätelevät: milloin käytetään prefiksiä de-, milloin prefiksiä ent-. When more is less: The other side of artificial intelligence recommendation

2022

Based on consumers' preferences, AI (artificial intelligence) recommendation automatically filters information, which provokes scholars' debate. Supporters believe that by analyzing the consumers' preferences, AI recommendation enables consumers to choose products more quickly and with lower cost. Critics deem that consumers are more easily trapped in information cocoons because of the use of AI recommendation. This reduces the possibility of consumers contacting with a variety of commodities, thus lowering the consumer decision quality. Based on experiments, this paper discusses the moderating role of AI recommendation on the relationship of consumers' preferences and information cocoons. …

Una más de la familia. Au pairs atrapadas entre el capital humano y la economía moral

2018

In contemporary societies we are witnessing an expansion of the messages of human capital. These messages have as their central dimension idea of the self-entrepreneur, which implies a deepening in the logic of activation, while blurring the wage relations. In this scenario, young people with university degrees are becoming a favourite target in the offensive of human capital. The penetration of these human capital messages can be seen in the discourses of young university students who have been forced to leave the country during the crisis. In the present text we approach the discourses of young women who came out as au pairs. The characteristics of this figure place it in a space halfway …

Beyond “liberals” and “conservatives”: Complexity in ideology, moral intuitions, and worldview among Swedish voters

2020

This research investigated the congruence between the ideologies of political parties and the ideological preferences (N = 1515), moral intuitions (N = 1048), and political values and worldviews (N = 1345) of diverse samples of Swedish adults who voted or intended to vote for the parties. Logistic regression analyses yielded support for a series of hypotheses about variations in ideology beyond the left-right division. With respect to social ideology, resistance to change and binding moral intuitions predicted stronger preference for a social democratic (vs. progressive) party on the left and weaker preference for a social liberal (vs. social conservative or liberal-conservative) party on t…
