Chromo- and magnifying endoscopy for colorectal lesions

It is essential to identify patients with premalignant or early malignant changes during colonoscopy. Thus, curative resection can be offered. At present, endoscopy can be performed with new powerful high-resolution or magnifying endoscopes. Comparably to the rapid development in chip technology, the optic features of the newly designed endoscopes offer resolutions which allow new mucosal surface details to be seen. In conjunction with chromoendoscopy, the newly discovered tool video endoscopy is much easier and more impressive than with conventional fibre optics. This review summarizes the value of magnifying endoscopy in the lower gastrointestinal tract and focuses on colorectal lesions.

Chromoendoscopy with methylene blue or indigo carmine significantly increases the diagnostic yield of finding intraepithelial neoplasia in patients with longstanding colitis. The number needed to treat is 14 for panchromoendoscopy to identify 1 additional patient with dysplasia. Chromoendoscopy can greatly facilitate the identification of flat lesions harboring intraepithelial neoplasia. Chromoendoscopy can guide biopsies and clearly reduces the amount of biopsies that are needed per patient. Impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak on radiology research: An Italian survey

Abstract Purpose To understand how COVID-19 pandemic has changed radiology research in Italy. Methods A questionnaire (n = 19 questions) was sent to all members of the Italian Society of Radiology two months after the first Italian national lockdown was lifted. Results A total of 327 Italian radiologists took part in the survey (mean age: 49 ± 12 years). After national lockdown, the working-flow came back to normal in the vast majority of cases (285/327, 87.2%). Attitudes towards insulin initiation in type 2 diabetes patients among healthcare providers: A survey research

Aims: To describe the views of healthcare providers about starting insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes and to determine the specific factors that contribute to delay insulin initiation. Methods: Two-phases observational descriptive study. In the quantitative phase we conducted a cross-sectional survey of a sample of 380 healthcare professionals (general practitioners (GPs), endocrinologists, internists and nurses). In the qualitative phase, a discussion group reviewed the results of the survey to propose solutions.
