Normativitet: utfordring i psykoterapeutisk og pedagogisk arbeid. Den profesjonelle mellom tvang og frihet
2016
In this article we wish to discuss different normative dilemmas that teachers and psychotherapists meet in their work with the student and the patient. We argue that crucial for a good practice is not the actual choice between normativity and freedom, between generalized or authorized standards and individual dialogue. Rather it is the professional’s continuous reflection on the form and quality of the interactions with the pupil and the patient, and the preservation of the balance between personal ethos and professional responsibilities that best safeguard respect for the other's autonomy and self-determination. By illustrating psychotherapeutic malpractice and systematic mistreatment of c…
Teaching practices in first-year university : description and analysis of their implications on student studies
2014
In France, there is little research on university teaching and focusing specifically on teaching practices. This present research aims to explore this concept in two different ways. The first part focuses on the description of the practices implemented by teachers during first-year university lectures. Using in situ observation of lecture practices of 49 teachers from five programmes, Administration, Sociology, Psychology and English, we first show that teachers’ practices mostly rely on traditional methods as defined by Bru (2006). However, we show a variety of practices among teachers. The second part of this research updates our knowledge of the implications of these practices on student…
MAPS OUT OF PLACE: DISPLACING CARTOGRAPHY IN THE REALM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
2015
As Brian Harley wrote: “maps are too important to be left to cartographers alone” (2001: 239). Not for nothing maps have played a pivotal role as weapons of imperialism, as discursive formations disciplining the link between academic practice and political power and acting as social hieroglyphics in the words of Marx. The aim of this paper is plotting a course towards a divergent use of map-making as creative process and as a set of tactics to destabilize, challenge and re-imagine geographical mapping practices, moving beyond\behind their direct link with power, war and the male Western “episteme”. What is at stake in this provisional critical route is to understand what function and dysfun…
Marketing-as-practice : A framework and research agenda for value-creating marketing activity
2023
This paper draws on practice theory and a review of practice theoretical studies in marketing, management, consumer, and markets research to advance our knowledge of marketing as a value-creating activity within firms. Building on previous research, the paper contributes to the literature by advancing a Marketing-as-Practice (MAP) framework based on three key concepts: marketing practices, marketing practitioners, and marketing praxis. The structures and interrelationships between these key concepts are also outlined. The framework can be used to study value-creating marketing activities within firms as well as between firms and their stakeholders which is in line with the American Marketin…
Dynamics in stochastic evolutionary models
2014
First published: 01 February 2016 We characterize transitions between stochastically stable states and relative ergodic probabilities in the theory of the evolution of conventions. We give an application to the fall of hegemonies in the evolutionary theory of institutions and conflict, and illustrate the theory with the fall of the Qing dynasty and the rise of communism in China. We are especially indebted to Juan Block for his many comments and suggestions. We would also like to thank Drew Fudenberg, Kevin Hasker, Matt Jackson, Peyton Young, and five anonymous referees. We are grateful to NSF Grant SES-08-51315 and to the MIUR PRIN 20103S5RN3 for financial support.

Observations and interviews were analysed to elaborate the accounts as regards orchestrating mathematical activities in the kindergarten. A co-learning agreement was established as collaboration between the kindergarten teachers and researchers. The study reveals that the kindergarten teachers argue that they have been empowered in developing an inquiry stance towards mathematics and mathemat…

Results have shown that there were no gender differences in mathematics achievement. Children’s li…
Using historical school book excerpts for the education of mature mathematics teachers
2015
International audience; The use of historical and cultural perspectives in university mathematics education can support the development of self-esteem and maturity. It can bring together students with similar interests. We present the concept of a seminar on the analysis of mathematical textbooks and of learning contexts based on the consideration of historical excerpts. Such a seminar can become a starting point for a community of practice with the potential to develop social recognition and personal appreciation of the individual interests and talents of its members and their joint activities.
