Tests based on hyponeophagia phenomena are the most widely used to check the efficacy and efficiency of new-generation chronic antidepressant treatments. Even so, these tests lack strict consensus about their methodology, which reduces their validity, reproducibility and makes translatability difficult. Disruption of the vectorial bile acid transport in the liver is a key feature of cholestatic drugs, although many causal and mechanistic aspects are still unknown. The aim of the present study was to explore if cholestatic drugs can repress or induce the expression of hepatic transporters. To this end, sandwich-cultured rat hepatocytes were treated with cholestatic and non-cholestatic (steatotic, non-hepatotoxic, etc.) drugs and the mRNA expression of 10 uptake and efflux biliary transporters was measured. Abstract Gene transcription regulation is critical for the development of spinal microgliosis and neuropathic pain after peripheral nerve injury. Using a model of chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve, this study characterized the role of SET domain containing lysine methyltransferase 7 (SETD7) which monomethylates histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me1), a marker for active gene transcription. Prominent 7–12 Hz oscillations in frontal cortical networks in rats have been reported. However, the mechanism of generation and the physiological function of this brain rhythm have not yet been clarified. Multichannel extracellular field potentials of the ACC were recorded and analyzed using the current source density method in halothane-anesthetized rats. Spontaneous high-current spikes (HCSs) were localized in the deep part of layer II/III and upper part of layer V of the ACC. Litchi pericarp procyanidins (LPP) are dietary supplements with high antioxidant activity, but poor oral bioavailability and efficacy. Lactobacillus casei (L. casei-01) can transform flavan-3-ols from litchi pericarp and increase their antioxidant ability; thus, L. casei-01 with LPP was administered to rats for four and eight weeks to study the effect of such a combination on metabolic parameters and on phase II metabolism and detoxification pathways in the liver as an indirect measure for phenolic bioavailability. Transcription, translation, and turnover of transcripts and proteins are essential for cellular function. The contribution of those factors to protein levels is under debate, as transcript levels and cognate protein levels do not necessarily correlate due to regulation of translation and protein turnover. Here we propose neuronal polarity as a third factor that is particularly evident in the CNS, leading to considerable distances between somata and axon terminals.
