Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate vascular effects of diet supplementation with plant sterol esters (PSE). Background Plant sterol esters are used as food supplements to reduce cholesterol levels. Their effects on endothelial function, stroke, or atherogenesis are not known. Methods In mice, plasma sterol concentrations were correlated with endothelial function, cerebral lesion size, and atherosclerosis. Plasma and tissue sterol concentrations were measured by gas-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry in 82 consecutive patients with aortic stenosis. Aprites dati parāda, ka izplatītākās pretklepus augu drogas ir šaurlapu ceļtekas lapas, ārstniecības altejas sakne, islandes ķērpja lapoņi, vijīgās efejas lapas, parastā timiāna laksti un mazā mārsila laksti. Tēmas aktualitāti nosaka Pasaules Veselības Organizācijas statistikas dati, ka aptuveni 2 miljardi pasaules iedzīvotāju cieš no anēmijas, no kuriem aptuveni 50% gadījumu ir saistīti ar dzelzs trūkumu organismā (2). Līdz ar to dzelzs deficīta anēmija ir aktuāla globāla veselības problēma, tādēļ ir svarīgi noskaidrot aprūpes procesa īpatnības un grūtības, ar kurām saskarās medicīnas personāls, aprūpējot pacientu ar DDA. Screening and authentication of herbal formulations based on microextraction-assisted voltammetry of microparticles

A simple solid state electrochemical methodology for screening and authentication of herbal formulations is described. The proposed method is based on the recording of the voltammetric response, in contact with aqueous buffers, of microparticulate films of antioxidant compounds resulting from micro-extraction of dried herbal samples with ethanol or acetone. The obtained voltammetric responses led us to differentiate between diverse active components upon application of bivariate and multivariate chemometric techniques. We intend to analyse the semantic network of the preposition ‘per’ (“through”, “across” etc.) in Early Latin and the role of its conceptual structure in the spread from basic/spatial to abstract meanings. Although prepositions in ancient languages have raised a great deal of attention, there is little regarding Latin, and an in-depth semantic analysis of Latin prepositions is still lacking. A cognitive-based investigation of Plautus’ comedies (254-184 BCE) shows that, unlike other Indo-European languages, the spatial value rests on a schema representing ‘motion along a path’ not necessarily involving a bounded Landmark. Kādi tam būtu bijuši lingvistiskie cēloņi? Aplūkojot divus gramatiķu skatījumus, A. Bīlenšteina un J. Endzelīna, redzam, ka prepozīcija ie- ir atzīmēta kā tāda, proti, prepozīcija, bet kas lietošanā kā atdalāma neparādās. Līdzīga prepozīcijas ie- būtu iz, ar pretēju nozīmi, bet citādi analogas. We address the problem of detecting shots of subjects that are interviewed in news sequences. This is useful since usually these kinds of scenes contain important and reusable information that can be used for other news programs. In a previous paper, we presented a technique based on a priori knowledge of the editing techniques used in news sequences which allowed a fast search of news stories (see Albiol, A. et al., 3rd Int.
