Intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm (ITPN) of the pancreas: a distinct entity among pancreatic tumors
2022
Aims Intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm (ITPN) of the pancreas is a recently recognized pancreatic tumor entity. Here we aimed to determine the most important features with a systematic review coupled with an integrated statistical approach. Methods and results PubMed, SCOPUS, and Embase were searched for studies reporting data on pancreatic ITPN. The clinicopathological, immunohistochemical, and molecular data were summarized. Then a comprehensive survival analysis and a comparative analysis of the molecular alterations of ITPN with those of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) from reference cohorts (including the International Cance…
The next generation of laser spectroscopy experiments using light muonic atoms
2018
Precision spectroscopy of light muonic atoms provides unique information about the atomic and nuclear structure of these systems and thus represents a way to access fundamental interactions, properties and constants. One application comprises the determination of absolute nuclear charge radii with unprecedented accuracy from measurements of the 2S - 2P Lamb shift. Here, we review recent results of nuclear charge radii extracted from muonic hydrogen and helium spectroscopy and present experiment proposals to access light muonic atoms with Z ≥ 3. In addition, our approaches towards a precise measurement of the Zemach radii in muonic hydrogen (μp) and helium (μ 3He+) are discussed. These resul…
The high precision measurement of the 144Ce activity in the SOX experiment
2015
International audience; In order to perform a resolutive measurement to clarify the neutrino anomalies and to observe possible short distance neutrino oscillations, the SOX (Short distance neutrino Oscillations with BoreXino) experiment is under construction. In the first phase, a 100 kCi (144)Ce-(144)Pr antineutrino source will be placed under the Borexino detector at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), in center of Italy, and the rate measurement of the antineutrino events, observed by the very low radioactive background Borexino detector, will be compared with the high precision (< 1%) activity measurement performed by two calorimeters. The source will be embedded in a 19 mm …

On the relationship between some production parameters and a vegetation index in viticulture
2013
The use and timing of many agronomical practices such as the scheduling of irrigation and harvesting are dependent on accurate vineyard sampling of qualitative and productive parameters. Crop forecasting also depends on the representativeness of vineyard samples during the whole phenological period. This manuscript summarizes the last two years of precision viticulture in Sicily (Italy); agronomic campaigns were carried out in 2012 and 2013 within the "Tenute Rapitalà" and "Donnafugata" farms. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index derived from satellite images (RapidEye) acquired at berry set, pre-veraison and ripening phenological stages (occurred at June, July and August respectively) ha…
Identification of New Genetic Clusters in Glioblastoma Multiforme: EGFR Status and ADD3 Losses Influence Prognosis
2020
Glioblastoma multiforme (GB) is one of the most aggressive tumors. Despite continuous efforts to improve its clinical management, there is still no strategy to avoid a rapid and fatal outcome. EGFR amplification is the most characteristic alteration of these tumors. Although effective therapy against it has not yet been found in GB, it may be central to classifying patients. We investigated somatic-copy number alterations (SCNA) by multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification in a series of 137 GB, together with the detection of EGFRvIII and FISH analysis for EGFR amplification. Publicly available data from 604 patients were used as a validation cohort. We found statistical associations…
Lifetimes and g-factors of the HFS states in H-like and Li-like bismuth
2018
The LIBELLE experiment performed at the experimental storage ring (ESR) at the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt, Germany, has successfully determined the ground state hyperfine (HFS) splittings in hydrogen-like ($^{209}\rm{Bi}^{82+}$) and lithium-like ($^{209}\rm{Bi}^{80+}$) bismuth. The study of HFS transitions in highly charged ions enables precision tests of QED in extreme electric and magnetic fields otherwise not attainable in laboratory experiments. Besides the transition wavelengths the time resolved detection of fluorescence photons following the excitation of the ions by a pulsed laser system also allows to extract lifetimes of the upper HFS levels and g-fac…
Clinical management of endometrial receptivity.
2014
The endometrial window of implantation (WOI), the cycle days during which normal embryo implantation can occur, has generally been assumed to begin on cycle day 19 or 20 of an idealized 28 days cycle and last for 4 to 5 days. Noyes et al took the first steps in defining the WOI by establishing a set of morphological criteria to evaluate endometrial development and receptivity, but recent studies have invalidated their use in the routine evaluation of infertility. Based on greater than 10 years of extensive research, our group has developed a molecular diagnostic tool (the endometrial receptivity array [ERA] test) based on the specific transcriptomic signature that identifies the receptive e…
LightSpMV: Faster CSR-based sparse matrix-vector multiplication on CUDA-enabled GPUs
2015
Compressed sparse row (CSR) is a frequently used format for sparse matrix storage. However, the state-of-the-art CSR-based sparse matrix-vector multiplication (SpMV) implementations on CUDA-enabled GPUs do not exhibit very high efficiency. This has motivated the development of some alternative storage formats for GPU computing. Unfortunately, these alternatives are incompatible with most CPU-centric programs and require dynamic conversion from CSR at runtime, thus incurring significant computational and storage overheads. We present LightSpMV, a novel CUDA-compatible SpMV algorithm using the standard CSR format, which achieves high speed by benefiting from the fine-grained dynamic distribut…
