Objecti6e: Parsonnet proposed a preoperative score (‘‘initial Parsonnet’s score’’, which predicts the hospital mortality of adult cardiac surgery. This score was then modified by including several risk factors used in the ‘SUMMIT’ system (‘‘modified Parsonnet’s score’’, 44 variables). We wanted to assess the predictive value of these two scores in a French surgical population. Objective The study of the mitral valve apparatus and its modifications during functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) is better revealed by 3-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TOE). To plan mitral valve repair by annuloplasty and papillary muscle (PPM) relocation, we proposed a valve repair procedure oriented by the new main features obtained by real-time 3D TOE reconstruction of the mitral valve apparatus. New organisation for follow-up and assessment of treatment efficacy in sleep apnoea.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a highly prevalent disease, and there is an increased demand for OSA diagnosis and treatment. However, resources are limited compared with the growing needs for OSA diagnosis and management, and alternative strategies need to be developed to optimise the OSA clinical pathway. In this review, we propose a management strategy for OSA, and in general for sleep-disordered breathing, to be implemented from diagnosis to follow-up. Postoperative non-invasive assessment of pulmonary vascular resistance using Doppler echocardiography.

Non-invasive monitoring of pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) in postoperative cardiac surgery patients might be useful, particularly for management of pulmonary hypertension. Use of molecular topology for the prediction of physico-chemical, pharmacokinetic and toxicological properties of a group of antihistaminic drugs

We used molecular connectivity to search mathematical models for predicting physico-chemical (e.g. the partition coefficient, P), pharmacokinetic (e.g. the time of maximum plasma level, and toxicological properties (lethal dose, LD) for a group of antihistaminic drugs. The results obtained clearly reveal the high efficiency of molecular topology for the prediction of these properties. Randomization and cross-validation by use of leave-one-out tests were also performed in order to assess the stability and the prediction ability of the connectivity functions selected.

Existing Trichomonas vaginalis therapies are out of reach for most trichomoniasis people in developing countries and, where available, they are limited by their toxicity (mainly in pregnant women) and their cost.
