Model Predictive Control for Shunt Active Filters With Fixed Switching Frequency
2016
This paper presents a modification to the classical Model Predictive Control algorithm, named Modulated Model Predictive Control, and its application to active power filters. The proposed control is able to retain all the advantages of a Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control whilst improving the generated waveforms harmonic spectrum. In fact a modulation algorithm, based on the cost function ratio for different output vectors, is inherently included in the MPC. The cost function-based modulator is introduced and its effectiveness on reducing the current ripple is demonstrated. The presented solution provides an effective and straightforward single loop controller, maintaining an excel…
Prognostic Factors in APL
2018
The prognosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) has significantly improved since the introduction of anthracyclines, but especially after the advent of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO). The identification of prognostic factors is a key process in clinical investigation, since their recognition allows the stratification of disease risks and promotes refined therapeutic adjustments. In fact, most treatments are now designed following risk-adapted strategies in order to optimize the therapeutic efficacy and minimizing side effects. The efficacy of treatment is one major determinant in prognosis. Therefore, the impact of a number of disease and patient characteristi…
Type-2 Fuzzy Control of a Bioreactor
2009
Abstract—In this paper the control of a bioprocess using an adaptive type-2 fuzzy logic controller is proposed. The process is concerned with the aerobic alcoholic fermentation for the growth of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae a n d i s characterized by nonlinearity and parameter uncertainty. Three type-2 fuzzy controllers heve been developed and tested by simulation: a simple type-2 fuzzy logic controller with 49 rules; a type-2 fuzzyneuro- predictive controller (T2FNPC); a t y p e -2 selftuning fuzzy controller ( T2STFC). The T2FNPC combines the capability of the type-2 fuzzy logic to handle uncertainties, with the ability of predictive control to predict future plant performance making use of a…
A distributed real-time data prediction and adaptive sensing approach for wireless sensor networks
2018
International audience; Many approaches have been proposed in the literature to reduce energy consumption in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Influenced by the fact that radio communication and sensing are considered to be the most energy consuming activities in such networks. Most of these approaches focused on either reducing the number of collected data using adaptive sampling techniques or on reducing the number of data transmitted over the network using prediction models. In this article, we propose a novel prediction-based data reduction method. furthermore, we combine it with an adaptive sampling rate technique, allowing us to significantly decrease energy consumption and extend the …
Development and validation of the SIMPLE endoscopic classification of diminutive and small colorectal polyps
2018
Abstract Background Prediction of histology of small polyps facilitates colonoscopic treatment. The aims of this study were: 1) to develop a simplified polyp classification, 2) to evaluate its performance in predicting polyp histology, and 3) to evaluate the reproducibility of the classification by trainees using multiplatform endoscopic systems. Methods In phase 1, a new simplified endoscopic classification for polyps – Simplified Identification Method for Polyp Labeling during Endoscopy (SIMPLE) – was created, using the new I-SCAN OE system (Pentax, Tokyo, Japan), by eight international experts. In phase 2, the accuracy, level of confidence, and interobserver agreement to predict polyp hi…
Comparison between a guaiac and three immunochemical faecal occult blood tests in screening for colorectal cancer
2012
Abstract Background The aim of this study was to compare the performance of the guaiac-based faecal occult blood test (G-FOBT), with that of three immunochemical faecal occult blood tests (I-FOBT) which allow automatic interpretation. Patients and methods Under the French organised screening programme, 85,149 average-risk individuals aged 50–74 participating in the third screening round, performed both the G-FOBT (Hemoccult-II test) and one of the I-FOBTs: FOB-Gold, Magstream and OC-Sensor. Results Given the chosen threshold, the positivity ratio between the different I-FOBTs and the G-FOBT was 2.4 for FOB-Gold, 2.0 for Magstream and 2.2 for OC-Sensor (P = 0.17). The three I-FOBTs were supe…
Comparison of the yield from two faecal immunochemical tests at identical cutoff concentrations – a randomized trial in Latvia
2016
OBJECTIVE We have compared the performance of two faecal immunochemical tests (FIT) in an average-risk population. MATERIALS AND METHODS Altogether, 10 000 individuals aged 50-74 were selected randomly from the population of Latvia in 2011 and assigned randomly either to OC-Sensor or to FOB Gold single-time testing. Positivity of the test, frequency of colonic lesions, number needed to screen (NNscreen) and scope for the detection of an advanced neoplasm (cancer and advanced adenoma) were compared between the tests using the same cutoff concentrations in µg/g faeces. Confidence intervals (CIs) at 95% were calculated. RESULTS Positivity with the cutoff set at 10 µg/g faeces was 12.8% (95% CI…
Intraprocedural bowel cleansing with the JetPrep cleansing system improves adenoma detection.
2014
AIM: To investigate the impact of JetPrep cleansing on adenoma detection rates. METHODS: In this prospective, randomized, crossover trial, patients were blindly randomized to an intervention arm or a control arm. In accordance with the risk profile for the development of colorectal carcinoma, the study participants were divided into high-risk and low-risk groups. Individuals with just one criterion (age > 70 years, adenoma in medical history, and first-degree relative with colorectal cancer) were regarded as high-risk patients. Bowel preparation was performed in a standardized manner one day before the procedure. Participants in the intervention arm underwent an initial colonoscopy with sta…

The immunohistochemical peptidergic expression of leptin is associated with recurrence of malignancy in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
2013
Leptin is a peptide that plays a key role in the control of satiety, energy expenditure, food intake and various reproductive processes. In the last years, the expression of leptin had been found in malignant cells of various origins. The aim of this study is to evaluate leptin expression in human laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and to investigate its possible role in predicting prognosis. Leptin expression was determined by immunohistochemistry in pathological and healthy tissue specimens from 24 patients with laryngeal SCC. Specimens were stained with an anti-leptin antibody. All measurements were performed using a computer-based image analysis system and scale of staining intensi…
