Prediction of complexity and complications of laparoscopic liver surgery: The comparison of the Halls‐score to the IWATE‐score in 100 consecutive lap…

2020

BACKGROUND The development of laparoscopic liver surgery is slower than in other disciplines. Two different scoring systems have been proposed to estimate difficulty of laparoscopic liver resections (LLR) preoperatively. The aim of this analysis was to compare these two scores in an independent patient cohort regarding the predictability of morbidity. METHODS All LLRs performed between 01/2011 until 01/2019 were identified from our prospective institutional database. Patient characteristics as well as intra- and postoperative data were analyzed. Postoperative complications were graded according to Dindo-Clavien classification. Difficulty of LLR was classified using IWATE- and Halls-score. R…

A Survey on Proxy Mobile IPv6 Handover

2016

[EN] As wireless technologies have been improving in recent years, a mobility management mechanism is required to provide seamless and ubiquitous mobility for end users who are roaming among points of attachment in wireless networks. Thus, Mobile IPv6 was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to support the mobility service. However, Mobile IPv6 is unable to fulfill the requirements of real-time applications, such as video streaming service and voice over IP service, due to its high handover (HO) latency. To address this problem, Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) has been introduced by the IETF. In PMIPv6, which is a network-based approach, the serving network controls mobility m…

A new approach to predict the fish fillet shelf-life in presence of natural preservative agents

2017

Three data sets concerning the behaviour of spoilage flora of fillets treated with natural preservative substances (NPS) were used to construct a new kind of mathematical predictive model. This model, unlike other ones, allows expressing the antibacterial effect of the NPS separately from the prediction of the growth rate. This approach, based on the introduction of a parameter into the predictive primary model, produced a good fitting of observed data and allowed characterising quantitatively the increase of shelf-life of fillets.

Early virologic response with pegylated interferons

2004

Abstract Recently, 12-week evaluation of viral response has been recommended as a means of reducing antiviral treatment morbidity and costs. The development of early stopping rules relies on an important assumption: rules must minimise discontinuation of treatment in patients who might ultimately respond after completion of the full course of therapy. Minimising loss of potential responders is the most important clinical goal in defining an early stopping rule because it provides the most sustained virological responders. This definition of the rule relies on maximising the negative predictive value. Conversely, rules that select patients based on optimising the positive predictive value pr…

Converging Analysis of the Concept of Strategic Group in the Spanish Lighting Industry

2008

Strategic group literature does not seem to offer strong enough theoretical bases to state the very existence of strategic groups and their effects on firm’s conduct and performance. The empirical validation of the existence of strategic groups has been usually done trying to contrast their predictive validity in relation to performance, obtaining conflicting evidence. Other papers have decided to contrast the convergent validity of the strategic group concept using different definitions and measures of this construct. Our work belongs to the second type of studies. It tries to make progress in the development of a theoretical model, able to state the industry features which affect the prob…

The Timecourse of Sentence Processing in the Brain

2015

This chapter discusses the current state of the art with regard to the timecourse of sentence processing in the brain. It outlines the challenges associated with studying timecourse information at the sentence level from a neurobiological perspective and describes competing theoretical and empirical perspectives in this domain. In addition to drawing on findings from neurophysiological methods (electroencephalography [EEG]; magnetoencephalography [MEG]), insights from eye movement measures during natural reading are also taken into account. The chapter concludes that while we are currently unable to make absolute claims about the timecourse of sentence processing from a neurobiological pers…

EGFR and PCNA experession in oral squamous cell carcinomas—a valuable tool in estimating the patient's prognosis

1993

We investigated 100 cases of oral squamous cell carcinomas immunohistologically with respect to the expression of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). The results were correlated with a new malignancy grading of the invasive tumour areas and the clinical outcome of the patients to estimate the individual prognosis. In conclusion, the amount of antigen expression of both antigens increases with the increasing grade of malignancy of the oral squamous cell carcinoma. Furthermore, there is a statistically significant correlation between the amount of antigen expression and the patient's prognosis. An overexpression of EGFR and PCNA is as…

European study of the efficacy of a cross-linked gel stent for the treatment of glaucoma

2020

indexation en cours.; PURPOSE: This study investigated the efficacy and safety of a cross-linked collagen stent (XEN 45) with or without cataract surgery in the treatment of glaucoma. SETTING: Real-life setting. DESIGN: Prospective, open-label, multicenter clinical trial. METHODS: Eligible patients with glaucoma inadequately controlled by treatment, or poor compliance or intolerance to topical therapy were included. Patients were divided into those with implant only (solo group; phakic and pseudophakic patients) and implant combined with cataract surgery (combo group). Differences in average intraocular pressure (IOP) and number of medications between baseline and study end (12 months), and…

An analysis of model predictive control with integral action applied to digital displacement cylinders

2020

This article aims to analyze Model Predictive Control (MPC) for the control of multi-chamber cylinders. MPC with and without integral action has been introduced. Three different algorithms have been used to solve the optimization problem in the MPC. The different algorithms have been compared with an industrial solver. The influence of changing mass, choosing a different middle line pressure, system delays, signal noise, velocity estimation, and changing pressure levels has been investigated. It is concluded that for the small prediction horizon used in the paper a simple algorithm such as A can produce results as good as the previously used Differential Evolution algorithm in less than hal…

Predictive pumping based on sensor data and weather forecast

2019

In energy production, peat extraction has a significant role in Finland. However, protection of nature has become more and more important globally. How do we solve this conflict of interests respecting both views? In peat production, one important phase is to drain peat bog so that peat production becomes available. This means that we have control over how we can lead water away from peat bog to nature without water contamination with solid and other harmful substances. In this paper we describe a novel method how fouling of water bodies from peat bog can be controlled more efficiently by using weather forecast to predict rainfall and thus, minimize the effluents to nature. peerReviewed
