Passing the test of motherhood? Self‐esteem development and birth experience in the transition to motherhood : A longitudinal mixed methods study in …
2022
Aims To investigate women's childbirth experiences and their relation to self-esteem development in the postpartum year. Design A mixed methods study. Methods Women (N = 125) completed survey questionnaires regarding their self-esteem and childbirth experiences at three time points in 2020–2021: third trimester of pregnancy (T1), 4–8 weeks postpartum (T2) and 1 year postpartum (T3). The survey results were analysed using qualitative thematic and quantitative path analyses with latent change factors. The open-ended answers of the women who demonstrated a change in self-esteem between T2 and T3 were then compared. The STROBE checklist was used as the reporting guideline. Results The quantitat…
Mast cells as protectors of health.
2019
Mast cells (MCs), which are well known for their effector functions in T(H)2-skewed allergic and also autoimmune inflammation, have become increasingly acknowledged for their role in protection of health. It is now clear that they are also key modulators of immune responses at interface organs, such as the skin or gut. MCs can prime tissues for adequate inflammatory responses and cooperate with dendritic cells in T-cell activation. They also regulate harmful immune responses in trauma and help to successfully orchestrate pregnancy. This review focuses on the beneficial effects of MCs on tissue homeostasis and elimination of toxins or venoms. MCs can enhance pathogen clearance in many bacter…

Fertility and immunosuppression in allogeneic uterus transplantation
2015
Vagus Nerve Stimulation in Medically- Resistant Epilepsy: Efficacy and Tolerance
2022
Background: Epilepsy is a common neurological disease that affects 1% of the population. One third of patients with epilepsy will not respond to antiseizure medications. The most effective treatment when a patient has medically resistant epilepsy is epilepsy surgery. Unfortunately, in many cases surgery is not possible. Neuromodulation is a therapy used in those patients and Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) is the most common type. There are many studies focusing on seizure reduction using VNS, it is still unclear which patients will obtain the greatest benefits. Objective: To define the seizure response post-VNS implantation, to determine predictive factors associated with good outcomes after…
