Lower thoracic spine extension mobility is associated with higher intensity of thoracic spine pain
2022
Objectives: To evaluate the association of thoracic spine (TS) posture and mobility with TS pain. Methods: Participants with TS pain reported maximum, average, and night pain in TS area, and pain summary score was calculated. Upright and sitting TS postures were evaluated by inspection. TS posture and mobility (flexion and extension) were recorded using an inclinometer and a tape measure, respectively. Correlations between posture and mobility assessments were calculated using Spearman rank correlation, the association of TS posture and mobility with TS pain by logistic regression analysis. Results: The participants’ (n = 73, 52 females, age range 22–56) TS pain duration was 12 weeks on ave…
A sustainable city environment through child safety and mobility:A challenge based on ITS?
2012
Our cities should be designed to accommodate everybody, including children. We will not move toward a more sustainable society unless we accept that children are people with transportation needs, and ‘bussing’ them around, or providing parental limousine services at all times, will not lead to sustainability. Rather, we will need to make our cities walkable for children, at least those above a certain age. Safety has two main aspects, traffic safety and personal safety (risk of assault). Besides being safe, children will also need an urban environment with reasonable mobility, where they themselves can reach destinations with reasonable effort; else they will still need to be driven. This p…
Revisiting the cross‐sectional and prospective association of physical activity with body composition and physical fitness in preschoolers: A composi…
2022
Background Information is limited for the benefits of physical activity (PA) in preschoolers. Previous research using accelerometer-assessed PA may be affected for multicollinearity issues. Objectives This study investigated the cross-sectional and prospective associations of sedentary behaviour (SB) and PA with body composition and physical fitness using compositional data analysis. Methods Baseline PA and SB were collected in 4-year-old (n = 315) using wrist-worn GT3X+ during seven 24 h-periods. Body composition (air-displacement plethysmography) and physical fitness (PREFIT test battery) were assessed at baseline and at the 12-month follow-up. Results Increasing vigorous PA at expenses o…
Vidēja pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu runas attīstības veicināšana muzikālās rotaļās un dziedāšanā
2019
Gender Stereotype in the Context of Social Roles - As Perceived by Older Preschool Children
2021
STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVES ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MUSICAL ACTIVITIES IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION
2018
Aim. The aim of the study is to find out students’ perspectives on the necessity, readiness and disturbing factors of implementing musical activities in preschool. The theoretical part of the paper describes the particularity of preschool teachers’ work, the children’s interest in musical activities, and the benefits of implementing musical activities in preschool.
Method. The empirical study involved 168 students (N=168), of which 132 students (N=132) are already working as preschool teachers in parallel with their study at the university. The study identified three questions: why do preschool teachers use musical activities? What factors prevent a preschool teacher from using music…
Vecākā pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu stājas nostiprināšana sporta nodarbībās
2018
Bakalaura darba tēma. Vecākā pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu stājas nostiprināšana sporta nodarbībās. Bakalaura darba autors. Bakalaura darba saturs. Darbs sastāv no 2 daļām –teorētiskās un empīriskās. Teorētiskā daļā tika analizēta …
Chemosensory reactivity and food neophobia in preschool children: impact of smell, but not of taste
2014
Context and objective: Recent studies suggested that sensory sensitivity could be linked to food neophobia, described as the reluctance to eat, or the avoidance of, new foods. The objective of the present study was twofold. Firstly, this study aimed at assessing the links between smell reactivity and taste reactivity in children. Secondly, this study assessed the links between children’s smell/taste reactivity and food neophobia. The hypothesis was that the higher the chemosensory reactivity of the child, the more the child is neophobic. Method: One hundred and three dyads of mother-child, from the Opaline cohort, were involved. The child’s food neophobia was assessed using a validated pare…
Smell but not taste reactivity is related to food neophobia in toddlers: results from the Opaline cohort
2014
National audience; Context and objective: Research has previously identified relationships between chemosensory reactivity and food neophobia in toddlers. However, most studies have addressed this question using declarative data, and without analyzing separately smell and taste. The objective of the present study was twofold. The first objective was to assess the relationships between olfactory reactivity and taste reactivity in toddlers, using experimental designs with different tastants and odorants. The second objective was to determine the relationships between olfactory /taste reactivity and food neophobia in toddlers. The hypothesis was that the higher the chemosensory reactivity of t…
Scaffolding through dialogic teaching in early school classrooms
2016
The present study examines what types of dialogic teaching patterns can be identified in the early school years, and how teachers scaffold children's participation and shared understanding through dialogic teaching. Thirty recorded lessons from preschool to Grade 2 in Finnish classrooms were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Two teacher-initiated and two child-initiated dialogic teaching patterns were identified. Teacher's scaffolding in teacher-initiated dialogues was characterised by high responsibility in maintaining the interactional flow and utilisation of diverse strategies. In the child-initiated dialogues, the teachers' scaffolding consisted of listening and inquiry, and …
