Impact of a physician-targeted letter on opioid prescribing.

We study the effect of a physician-targeted nudge letter on opioid prescribing. In May 2017, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland sent a personal information letter to all physicians who had issued a prescription containing at least 100 tablets of paracetamol-codeine combination to a new patient. The aim of the letter was to draw the physicians’ attention to their prescribing practices and to decrease the size of the first codeine prescription. Using individual level register data and a difference-in-differences strategy, we estimate that the letter decreased the average number of tablets purchased by new patients by 12.5 percent and the probability of a first purchase being at least…

Risk-Reducing Gynecological Surgery in Lynch Syndrome: Results of an International Survey from the Prospective Lynch Syndrome Database.

Purpose: To survey risk-reducing hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) practice and advice regarding hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in women with Lynch syndrome. Methods: We conducted a survey in 31 contributing centers from the Prospective Lynch Syndrome Database (PLSD), which incorporates 18 countries worldwide. The survey covered local policies for risk-reducing hysterectomy and BSO in Lynch syndrome, the timing when these measures are offered, the involvement of stakeholders and advice regarding HRT. Physiotherapists’ experiences of direct access for clients with musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction: a qualitative study

Aims: The aim of this study was to qualitatively analyse physiotherapists’ experiences and perspectives for delivering services directly, without prescription or referral, for clients with musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction. Methods: This was a qualitative study where data were collected from questionnaires given to 34 physiotherapists, 18 of them being in direct access for 6 years and 16 for 6 months. There were 15 structured questions and 3 open-ended ones. The answers were analysed with quantitative and qualitative methods. The increase in comorbidities due to an aging population determines a marked increase in the use of drugs (polypharmacy), which in turn carries a high risk of drug-drug interactions. This Paper will analyze the relationship between exposure to adverse drug interactions, and hospitalization and mortality in a cohort of elderly patients, living in a local Health Unit in Palermo, Italy. El estudio se basa en una encuesta realizada específicamente para esta investigación en la que fueron entrevistadas 210 personas que asistían a una representación teatral en tres salas distintas de la ciudad de Valencia. El estudio ha revelado la importancia del boca a boca en la decisión de asistir al teatro y su mayor influencia entre el público menos asiduo a las representaciones teatrales.
