Darstellung von Hyperebenen in verallgemeinerten affinen Räumen durch Moduln

1994

The starting point of this article is a generalized concept of affine space which includes all affine spaces over unitary modules. Our main result is a representation theorem for hyperplanes of affine spaces: Every hyperplane which satisfies a weak richness condition is induced by a module. 1

Affine Kettengeometrien ber Jordanalgebren

1996

It is shown that an affine chain geometry over a Jordan algebra can be constructed in a nearly classical manner. Conversely, such chain geometries are characterized as systems of rational normal curves having a group of automorphisms with certain properties.

The coordinatization of affine planes by rings

1996

With every unitary free module of rank 2 there is naturally associated a generalized affine plane (e.g. the lines are just the cosets of all nonzero 1-generated submodules). Here we solve the converse problem by coordinatizing a given generalized affine plane which satisfies certain versions of Desargues' postulate.

On the algebraic representation of projectively embeddable affine geometries

1995

The main result of this article is an application of [1] and [2] which yields that an at least 2-dimensional affine geometry is module-induced if and only if it is projectively embeddable into an Arguesian projective lattice geometry.

An Agent-Based Model of Extortion Racketeering

2016

Mafias can be considered as criminal organisations that are in the business of producing, promoting, and selling protection. Here, we describe the Palermo Scenario, an agent-based model of protection rackets aimed to deepen our understanding of protection rackets, and help policymakers to evaluate methods for destabilising them. Additionally, since the system is explicitly specified, we can use it to investigate the entire causal pathway from cause to effect: not only from actions to Mafia destabilisation, but also the intermediate actions along the path and actors' internal mental representations among the population.

Educational styles, peers’ approval and adolescent self-injurious behaviours

2010

The present research aims at understanding how the same body may became object of aggression and destruction by adolescents' self-injurious behaviours. Particularly, self-injurious behaviours are those finalised to destruction or deliberate alteration of one's body, even if without a conscious suicidal intention. The research aims at studying the relationship between educational styles, self-injurious behaviours and the social representation of the phenomenon in a group of adolescents aged between 15 and 19 years. Research has shown that on the basis of self-injurious behaviours there are the perception of an authoritarian educational style and approval by peers and brothers. (C) 2010 Elsev…

THE EFFECT OF SPACED VS. MASSED PRESENTATION OF AGGRESSION ITEMS ON VERBAL AGGRESSIVE RESPONSES OF CHILDREN

1963

A story completion test was constructed and administered to 99 ten-year-old boys. The main results were: (1) The average number of aggressive responses tends to be lower when the aggression items are presented in a ‘spaced’ manner than when they are ‘massed’. (2) There is a spread effect from aggression items to neutral items. Aggression and neutral items presented in mixed order give a stronger effect. (3) A relatively consistent factor structure of aggression responses was shown in the test. Aggression towards peers and authority were independent of each other, and seem to be influenced differently by the manner of presentation of stimuli.

Media portrayals of transitions from work to retirement in two ageing societies : the case of ageing baby boomers in Japan and Finland

2021

This article explores media portrayals of the transition from work to retirement under the circumstances of demographic change through a focus on newspaper discussions about ageing baby boomers in Japan and Finland. Due to their shared characteristics as a distinct population group that advances the rapid ageing of the population, media representations of Japanese and Finnish baby boomers during the transitional period to retirement give insight into the social perceptions of retirement and their implications on later life. Manifest content analysis and subsequent thematic analysis identify that the topic of “work, retirement and pension” dominates media discussions in both countries. Analy…

GABAA agonist muscimol ameliorates learning/memory deficits in streptozocin-induced Alzheimer’s disease non-transgenic rat model

2015

Background: GABAergic inhibitory action regulates learning/memory processes and contributes to neurotransmission (Gong et al., 2009). Existing evidence suggests GABAergic system is involved in pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) via inhibitory interneuron deficits (Verret et al., 2012) and decrease in functional GABAA receptors (Limon et al., 2012). In vitro, GABA and muscimol (GABAA receptor agonist) blocked neuronal death induced by Aβ in rat hippocampal and cortical neurons (Paula-Lima et al., 2005). Our concept: low doses of muscimol may prevent learning/memory deficits in intracerebroventricular (icv) streptozocin (STZ)-induced AD non-transgenic rat model. Methods. Wistar male …

Increase of the FGFR1 signaling in the FGFR1-5-HT1A heteroreceptor complex in midbrain raphe 5-HT neuron systems via allosteric receptor-receptor int…

2015

The ascending midbrain 5-HT neurons known to contain 5-HT1A autoreceptors may be dysregulated in depression due to a reduced trophic support. New findings show existence of FGFR1-5-HT1A heteroreceptor complexes in the rat hippocampus with a partial characterization of their interface and in midbrain raphe 5-HT nerve cells. With in situ Proximity Ligation Assay (PLA) and supported by co-location of the FGFR1 and 5-HT1A immunoreactivities in midbrain raphe 5-HT cells, evidence for the existence of FGFR1-5-HT1A heteroreceptor complexes were obtained in the dorsal and median raphe nuclei of the Sprague–Dawley rat. Their existence in the rat medullary raphe RN33B cell cultures was also establish…
