L’apparato effimero allestito nella cattedrale di Palermo per le cerimonie funebri di Carlo III di Borbone (1789): storia e rappresentazione digitale

2022

The paper focus on the ephemeral apparatus realized by the architect Salvatore Attinelli on the occasion of the funeral of Charles III of Bourbon, to be set up inside the cathedral of Palermo, in those years affected by a total internal modernization based on the project commissioned in 1767 to Ferdinando Fuga. This apparatus, in an article published by the academic Giuseppina Leone in 2001, was considered an alternative project to the proposal of Ferdinando Fuga, considered expensive and with a language not responding to the rules of good and modern architecture. The purpose of this paper is to reinforce the hypothesis of an apparatus having design purposes, and to verify its feasibility t…

Pictorial Real, Historical Intermedial. Digital Aesthetics and the Representation of History in Eric Rohmer’sThe Lady and the Duke

2016

AbstractInThe Lady and the Duke(2001), Eric Rohmer provides an unusual and “conservative” account of the French Revolution by recurring to classical and yet “revolutionary” means. The interpolation between painting and film produces a visual surface which pursues a paradoxical effect of immediacy and verisimilitude. At the same time though, it underscores the represented nature of the images in a complex dynamic of “reality effect” and critical meta-discourse. The aim of this paper is the analysis of the main discursive strategies deployed by the film to disclose an intermedial effectiveness in the light of its original digital aesthetics. Furthermore, it focuses on the problematic relation…

Feedback adaptation in web-based learning systems

2007

Feedback provided by a learning system to its users plays an important role in web-based education. This paper presents an overview of feedback studies and then concentrates on the problem of feedback adaptation in web-based learning systems. We introduce our taxonomy of feedback concept with regard to its functions, complexity, intention, time of occurrence, way of presentation, and level and way of its adaptation. We consider what can be adapted in feedback and how to facilitate feedback adaptation in web-based learning systems.

Finland: Finnish Principal

2016

The presentation of principalship in Finland begins by giving an overall description of the Finnish education system and of the formal position of principals in Finland. The more detailed examination of the Finnish principal comprises two main sources. Both sources are reviews on research on principals in Finland in 2000–2010. The first one was conducted for the Swedish Research Council by Risku and Kanervio (Doctoral and regular research on principals in Finland 2000–2010. In: Johansson O (ed) Rektor – en forskningsoversikt 2000–2010 [Principal – a research report]. Vetenskapsradets rapportserie 4:161–186, 2011). The second one is a report by Alava et al. The role of the cognitive model profile in knowledge representation and meaning construction: the case of the lexical item Europe

2017

The paper addresses the role of the cognitive model profile, one of the fundamental constructs in LCCM Theory (a.k.a. access semantics), in meaning construction and knowledge representation with respect to the concept of Europe. The study is based on a corpus of news articles retrieved from the Guardian from May 2004 through December 2009 (approximately 930,000 words) and focuses on the lexical item Europe (over 4000 corpus occurrences). The study takes its theoretical underpinnings from LCCM Theory, a theory of lexical representation and semantic composition, which delineates the roles the linguistic and the conceptual systems play in meaning construction (e.g., Evans 2009, 2013). The pape…

La nuova idea di cupola : teatri sacri e profani nell’Europa d’età barocca tra storia e rappresentazione

2023

A remarkable and diverse series of ceiling structures emerged between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in several European cities, aiming to offer a theatrical approach to architectural space. This development unfolded amidst the widespread use of frescoed ceilings or hemispherical domes supported by drums and pendentives inspired by Roman models. Designing and building systems consisting of multiple domes, open with oculi, superimposed or surmounted by lanterns, adorned with frescoes or galleries, and featuring light and music chambers required expertise in optics, perspective, acoustics, and, in some cases, even stereotomy. These skills were necessary to transform spaces in both r…

Analysis of gender, age and disability representation in music education textbooks: A research update

2018

According to International and European Law, teachers are encouraged to analyse, challenge and to help to eliminate sexist stereotypes and distortions in curricular materials. We aimed to characterize and compare the efficacy of implementation of the gender equality-based approach in the Spanish educational system, through a content analysis of the illustrations in music education (ME) textbooks following a coding scheme constructed by the research team according to guidelines from previous studies about the depiction of women and girls in ME textbooks during two periods of Spanish democracy: before (1992–2005); and after (2006–2015). Our major findings were: (a) female characters were und…

Representative Bureaucracy and the Role of Expertise in Politics

2015

This is an open access journal from Cogitatio http://www.cogitatiopress.com The vast majority of existing studies on bureaucratic representation focus on bureaucracies’ permanent and internal staff. Yet, the rising sophistication of modern democracies and the technocratization of political life are gradually inducing an increased reliance on external experts to assist in the development and implementation of policy decisions. This trend, we argue, raises the need to extend studies of bureaucratic representation to such external and non-permanent experts in governmental affairs. In this article, we take a first step in this direction using seconded national experts (SNEs) in the European Com…
