Study of different surfaces for neonates in hospital

2016

Evidence of risk of pressure ulcers in neonates pro is related to the type of bearing surface on which the neonate lays. To prevent pressure ulcers is necessary to know which of the available commercial surfaces is the most convenient. The goal of this work is to evaluate the interface and redistribution pressure of five constant low pressure devices (special surfaces for pressure management [SEMP] both static and mixed) for neonates. Next step will be the study of the properties of the new support surface with healthy subjects under clinical conditions.

Energy spectral density as valid parameter to compare postural control between subjects with nonspecific chronic low back pain vs healthy subjects : …

2021

Abstract Background Nonspecific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) is one of the most common and frequent health problems. Objetive to compare postural control (i.e. center of pressure (CoP) displacement and energy spectral density (ESD)) using technological devices (accelerometers and pressure platform) between subjects with NSCLBP and healthy subjects. Methods A cross-sectional case-control study was conducted. Observational study (STROBE). The final sample consisted of 60 subjects (30 NSCLBP subjects and 30 healthy subjects). Triaxial accelerometer and pressure platform were used in order to obtain ESD and CoP displacement measurements during four balance tasks (i.e. with and without vision …

Right ventricular volume determination in isolated human hearts

1986

For right ventricular volume determination a new method was developed that took into account right ventricular imaging by apical two-dimensional echocardiography in the four- and two-chamber views. Right ventricular volume was calculated by subtraction of the partial volume of the left ventricle and interventricular septum from the total heart volume of the right and left ventricles including the interventricular septum. Accuracy of the subtraction method was evaluated in isolated human hearts by two-dimensional echocardiography and radiography. Regression analysis indicated that for both the echocardiographic and radiologic procedures, the subtraction method gave the best correlation with …

Pulmonary Hypertension and Thromboembolic Disease

2008

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a disease group that includes a wide variety of entities leading to an increased pulmonary arterial pressure. This chapter describes the basic mechanisms that lead to PH and the possibilities of MRI in diagnosing different aspects. A MR imaging protocol is provided making MRI a comprehensive modality for the classification of the underlying disease and assessment of hemodynamics.

Precapillary Servo Control of Blood Pressure and Postcapillary Adjustment of Flow to Tissue Metabolic Status

1996

Background There are several shortcomings in current understanding of how the microvasculature maintains tissue homeostasis. Presently unresolved issues include (1) integration of the potentially conflicting needs for capillary perfusion and hydrostatic pressure regulation, (2) an understanding of signal transmission pathways for conveying information about tissue energetic status from undersupplied tissue sites to the arterioles, (3) accounting for the experimentally observed interrelations between precapillary and postcapillary resistances, and (4) an explanation of how precise local adjustment of perfusion to metabolic demands is achieved. Methods and Results A novel conceptualization o…

American College of Cardiology/ European Society of Cardiology international study of angiographic data compression phase III. Measurement of image q…

2000

Objectives We sought to investigate up to which level of Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) data compression the perceived image quality and the detection of diagnostic features remain equivalent to the quality and detectability found in uncompressed coronary angiograms. Background Digital coronary angiograms represent an enormous amount of data and therefore require costly computerized communication and archiving systems. Earlier studies on the viability of medical image compression were not fully conclusive. Methods Twenty-one raters evaluated sets of 91 cine runs. Uncompressed and compressed versions of the images were presented side by side on one monitor, and image quality differe…

SAT0136 Focus on Implementation of Cardiovascular Risk Factor Recording for Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis in A Rheumatology Outpatient Clinic

2014

Objectives There is a need for implementing the knowledge of cardiovascular (CV) risk in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) into clinical practice. Our aim was to evaluate CV risk factor (CVRF) recording in a rheumatology outpatient clinic (ROC), where the standard was annual CVRF recording. A second aim was to compare CVRF recording between a regular ROC (RegROC) and an arthritis clinic (AC), which consisted of a structured, team-based model. Methods In 2012, 1142 RA patients visited the ROC of the Hospital of Southern Norway. Of these 612 attended RegROC and 530 attended AC. We conducted a search in the patients9 hospital records to identify recording of CVRFs. Results CVRFs were rec…

Efficacy of Caplacizumab in Patients with aTTP in the HERCULES Study According to Baseline Disease Severity

2019

Background: Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP) is a rare, life-threatening autoimmune thrombotic microangiopathy that involves abnormal processing of von-Willebrand factor (vWF) and results in multiple organ dysfunction. Although aTTP remains a very unpredictable disease, risk factors for death include older age, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels >10x the upper limit of normal (ULN), and cerebral involvement (i.e., the French severity score) (Benhamou et al. Haematologica 2012;97:1181-1186). In addition, raised cardiac troponin-I (cTnI) levels of >2.5 µg/L have also been linked with a higher risk of mortality or refractoriness (Benhamou et al. J Thromb Haemost 2015;1…

AB0715 THE PREVALENCE OF FIBROMIYALGIA IN PATIENTS WITH FAMILIAL MEDITERRANEAN FEVER AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FATIGUE AND QUALITY OF LIFE

2021

Background:Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) can cause various muscle diseases. Because it is a chronic auto inflammatory disease, painful trigger points may be encountered in the examination due to a decrease in the pain threshold (1-3).Objectives:The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Fibromiyalgia in patients with FMF, at the same time to identify the relationship between fatigue and quality of life. Methods:Sixtyseven patients (38 female, 29 male) with FMF were enrolled in the study. They were diagnosed with FMF based on the Livneh diagnostic criteria (4). Fibromyalgia involvement of the patients was evaluated according to the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ). P…
