Tumor associated antigens in human renal cell carcinoma: MHC restricted recognition by cytotoxic T lymphocytes.
1996
Based on previous studies in human melanoma leading to the molecular cloning of genes encoding peptide antigens recognized by MHC-restricted cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) we extended our efforts to renal cancer systems established in tissue culture. In two patients we obtained stable CD8+ CTL clones with high cytolytic activity for the corresponding autologous tumor cell line in vitro. Neither autologous EBV-transformed B lymphocytes or PHA-activated PBL nor natural killer targets K562 were lysed by these CTL clones. MZ1257-RCC CTL5-30 lysed autologous tumor cells as well as normal kidney cell cultures in an HLA-A2 restricted fashion. Further specificity analysis showed cross reactivity wit…
Characterization of V-doped SnO2 nanoparticles at ambient and high pressures
2018
Nanoparticles of V-doped SnO2 with stoichiometry Sn1-xO2Vx (x = 0.05, 0.075, 0.125) have been synthesized by a co-precipitation method. Their structural, vibrational, and nuclear properties have been characterized by x-ray Diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive x-ray Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, and Mössbauer Spectroscopy (with 119Sn probe) at ambient pressure. We also performed high-pressure synchrotron x-ray diffraction experiments. The structural behaviour was studied up to ∼10 GPa under quasi-hydrostatic conditions. It has been found that tin dioxide nanoparticles with V are more compressible than un-doped tin dioxide nanoparticles. Fil: Ferrari, S. Consej…
Stroke subtypes and their possible implication in stroke prevention drug strategies
2014
Thrombotic strokes can affect large or small arteries in the brain. Drugs to prevent atherosclerosis complication such as thrombotic strokes, should be drugs able to prevent the accumulation of intravascular fat, reduce vascular proliferation, decrease blood pressure levels with the resulting shear stress, reduce platelet aggregation, and possibly partially or totally reverse carotid plaques. Any of the commonly used antihypertensive drugs lower the incidence of stroke, with larger reductions in BP resulting in larger reductions in risk. Experimental and clinical data suggest that reducing the activity of the renin-angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) may have beneficial effects beyond the…
Neuromodulation of chronic headaches: position statement from the European Headache Federation
2013
The medical treatment of patients with chronic primary headache syndromes (chronic migraine, chronic tension-type headache, chronic cluster headache, hemicrania continua) is challenging as serious side effects frequently complicate the course of medical treatment and some patients may be even medically intractable. When a definitive lack of responsiveness to conservative treatments is ascertained and medication overuse headache is excluded, neuromodulation options can be considered in selected cases. Here, the various invasive and non-invasive approaches, such as hypothalamic deep brain stimulation, occipital nerve stimulation, stimulation of sphenopalatine ganglion, cervical spinal cord sti…
Effects of high-resolution esophageal manometry on oxygen saturation and hemodynamic function
2016
The effect of high-resolution esophageal manometry (HRM) on oxygen saturation (SaO2) and hemodynamic function has not been previously evaluated. This was a prospective study of consecutive patients referred for HRM. Demographic and clinical data were collected on all patients. The study variables included SaO2, heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP). SaO2 and HR were measured at baseline, during intubation, during and 5 min after HRM. BP was measured at baseline, during and after HRM. 158 (56% women) patients with a mean age of 56 (SD 15) years were included. Thirty-five (22%) were obese and 55 (35%) were overweight. Eighteen (12%) patients had a history of respiratory disease and 27 (17%)…
The "Neurocentric" Approach to Essential Hypertension: How Reliable is the Paradigm of Hyperkinetic Hypertension? A Focus on the Sympathetic Nervous …
2017
BACKGROUND: Clinic resting heart rate (RHR), is one of the cardiovascular parameters more easily measurable. In the general population RHR has been associated with total and cardiovascular mortality and higher rate of vascular events. OBJECTIVE: The case of essential hypertension is in some ways peculiar: in the past decades has often been attributed to hypertensive subjects higher values of RHR than healthy controls as a result of the effects of the different factors leading to the development of essential hypertension itself, first of all the presence of an increased tone of the sympathetic nervous system Methods: Several excellent articles debated the issue of autonomic dysfunction in es…
Combined use of liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry in sy…
2012
As a suitable way for routine screening of pesticides and control of other organic contaminants in water, the combination of liquid chromatography triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (LC-QqQ-MS/MS) and liquid chromatography-hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) has been applied to the analysis of 63 surface and waste water samples after conventional solid-phase extraction (SPE). The extracts were screened for 43 pesticides or degradation products by LC-QqQ-MS/MS achieving limits of detection (LOD) ranged from 0.04 to 2 ng L(-1). Of the 43 selected pesticides, 33 were detected in water samples. The ESI-QTOF MS instrument was run using two simultaneous acquisi…
An investigation of antihypertensive class, dementia, and cognitive decline
2019
Objective High blood pressure is one of the main modifiable risk factors for dementia. However, there is conflicting evidence regarding the best antihypertensive class for optimising cognition. Our objective was to determine whether any particular class of antihypertensive was associated with a reduced risk of cognitive decline or dementia using comprehensive meta-analysis including reanalysis of original participant data. Methods To identify suitable studies MEDLINE, Embase and PsycINFO® and pre-existing study consortia were searched from inception to December 2017. Authors of prospective longitudinal human studies or trials of antihypertensives were contacted for data-sharing and collabor…
Overview of first Wendelstein 7-X high-performance operation
2019
Abstract The optimized superconducting stellarator device Wendelstein 7-X (with major radius , minor radius , and plasma volume) restarted operation after the assembly of a graphite heat shield and 10 inertially cooled island divertor modules. This paper reports on the results from the first high-performance plasma operation. Glow discharge conditioning and ECRH conditioning discharges in helium turned out to be important for density and edge radiation control. Plasma densities of with central electron temperatures were routinely achieved with hydrogen gas fueling, frequently terminated by a radiative collapse. In a first stage, plasma densities up to were reached with hydrogen pellet injec…
Position paper - progress towards standards in integrated (aerobic) MBR modelling.
2020
Membrane bioreactor (MBR) models are useful tools for both design and management. The system complexity is high due to the involved number of processes which can be clustered in biological and physical ones. Literature studies are present and need to be harmonized in order to gain insights from the different studies and allow system optimization by applying a control. This position paper aims at defining the current state of the art of the main integrated MBR models reported in the literature. On the basis of a modelling review, a standardized terminology is proposed to facilitate the further development and comparison of integrated membrane fouling models for aerobic MBRs. ispartof: WATER …
