Management of Atrial Fibrillation Suppression in AF-HF Comorbidity Therapy (MASCOT) Trial
2003
Inter- [1,2], intra- [3,4], and atrioventricular [51(AV) dyssynchrony are not new concepts, but only recently have attempts been made to correct these disorders in an effort to treat heart failure (HF). A series of trials [6] has addressed partial or comprehensive cardiac resynchronization in patients with severe HF and evidence of cardiac dyssynchrony. Cardiac resynchronization should improve left ventricular (LV) performance; several trials [7-10] have demonstrated improvement in many hemodynamic parameters (LV and aortic pressure, shortening of mitral diastolic regurgitation, synchronized LV and atrial systole, LV volume, reduced myocardial oxygen consumption) and clinical end-points (qu…

The aim was to determine the effects of dulaglutide, a synthetic once-weekly, injectable human glucagon-like peptide 1 analogue that lowers blood glucose, body weight, appetite and blood pressure, on cardiovascular outcomes. People with type 2 diabetes, aged ≥50 years, with glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) ≤9.5%, and either a previous cardiovascular event, evidence of cardiovascular disease or ≥2 cardiovascular risk factors were randomly allocated to a weekly subcutaneous injection of either dulaglutide (1.5 mg) or placebo and followed within the ongoing Researching cardiovascular Events with a Weekly INcretin in Diabetes (REWIND) trial every 3 to 6 months. The primary cardiovascular outcome is…

Alteration of Heart Rate Variability as an Early Predictor of Cardiovascular Events: A Look at Current Evidence
2020
Evidence suggests an association between autonomic nervous system (ANS) function and atrial fibrillation (AF) development. We sought to examine the association of baseline resting heart rate (RHR) and short-term heart rate variability (HRV) as surrogates of (ANS) with incident AF in individuals without prior cardiovascular disease. A total of 6261 participants of the Multi Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) who were free of AF and diagnosed cardiovascular disease were enrolled. Three standard 10-second, 12-lead electrocardiograms were used to measure RHR, the standard deviation of normal-to-normal intervals (SDNN) and the root mean square of successive differences in RR intervals (RMSSD…
Ungewöhnlicher Verlauf von otobasalen Frakturen mit Liquorrhoe*
1993
In the literature the persistence of cerebrospinal Liquorrhea after temporal bone fractures is a rare event. Between 1989 and 1992 four cases of temporal bone fractures with dural involvement were operated at the University ENT Department Mainz. These temporal bone fractures showed delayed or persistent symptoms of dural lacerations between three and sixty months after head injury. During operation we found larger bone-dura defects (1-1.5 cm in diameter) and brain herniations in all cases. Strohm stated that only in rare cases a temporal bone fracture produced a larger gap in the tegmen tympani or antri. Therefore, we assumed that in our cases such larger bone-dura defects were caused by a …
Study of different surfaces for neonates in hospital
2016
Evidence of risk of pressure ulcers in neonates pro is related to the type of bearing surface on which the neonate lays. To prevent pressure ulcers is necessary to know which of the available commercial surfaces is the most convenient. The goal of this work is to evaluate the interface and redistribution pressure of five constant low pressure devices (special surfaces for pressure management [SEMP] both static and mixed) for neonates. Next step will be the study of the properties of the new support surface with healthy subjects under clinical conditions.
