Migrēnas blakusslimību raksturojums
2019
Incidence of impacted and supernumerary teeth-a radiographic study in a North Greek population.
2010
Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of impacted and supernumerary teeth, apart from third molars. Study design: This was a retrospective study of 1.239 panoramic radiographs taken of patients who presented to the Department of Dentoalveolar Surgery, Implantology and Radiology at the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece between 1991 and 1999. The panoramic radiographs and dental records were reviewed in order to determine whether there were impacted or supernumerary teeth. Observations were also made on the space in dentition, corresponding to the position of each impacted tooth, the lack of space for tooth eruption, t…
Frequency and characteristics of tooth agenesis among an orthodontic patient population
2009
Purpose: The objectives of this study were to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of tooth agenesis and the associated skeletal morphology and arch widths in a group of Turkish patients seeking orthodontic treatment. Material and Methods: We designed a retrospective study composed of pre- and post-treatment panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalometric films of 3,341 patients (2,040 females and 1,301 males). Tooth agenesis was evaluated for hypodontia and oligodontia -excluding the third molars- from the orthopantomograms. The significance test for the differences in the skeletal morphology between hypodontia and non-hypodontia patients was performed using the Pearson chi-squar…
Prevalence of impacted premolars in a Turkish population and considerations for surgical treatment
2010
Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the prevalence, associated pathology and symptoms, and treatment of impacted premolars in a Turkish population. Study Design: This retrospective study examined panoramic radiographs and clinical records of 9,000 patients who presented consecutively at our oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics between January 1998 and January 2009. In addition to demographic data (patient sex and age), data was compiled on the number and location of impacted missing maxillary and mandibular premolars, retained deciduous molars, associated pathologies and symptoms, and treatment methods. Results: A total of 105 impacted maxillary or mandibular premolars were o…
The prevalence of root dilacerations in a Turkish population
2009
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of root dilaceration in a Turkish dental patient population with respect to sexes and dental localization in relation between sex and this anomaly. Study Design: A retrospective study was performed using periapical radiography of 2,124 patients ranging in age from 15 to 65. All data (age, sex and systemic disease or syndrome) was obtained from the files. These patients were analyzed for root dilaceration. Descriptive characteristics of sexes, jaws, and dental localization were recorded. The Pearson chi-squared test was used. Results: Of 2,251 patients, 214 (9.5%) had root dilaceration. Root dilacerations were determined in 27…

Impacted lower third molars and distal caries in the mandibular second molar. Is prophylactic removal of lower third molars justified?
2017
Background The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between the presence of mandibular third molars and the occurrence of carious lesions in the distal aspect of the mandibular second molar. Material and methods A retrospective cohort study comprising 327 lower third molars extracted in the Oral Surgery and Implantology Master's Degree program of the School of Dentistry of the University of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain) was carried out. A descriptive and bivariate analysis was made. The diagnosis of caries in the second molar and the position of the mandibular third molar were evaluated through panoramic radiographies. Results The sample included 203 patients, 94 males (46…
Tooth agenesis in a Portuguese population.
2012
Summary Objective The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the prevalence and pattern of hypodontia in the permanent dentition, including and excluding third molars, in a Portuguese sample. Patients and methods The study group comprised 2888 patients, observed between 2005 and 2009 at the Dentistry Clinic of the Instituto Superior de Ciencias de Saude-Norte (ISCSN, Portugal). The patients were examined for evidence of hypodontia and presence or absence of deciduous teeth in those presenting agenesis. The age range varied from 7 to 21 years. In order to study the absence of the third molar, subjects under 14 years were excluded. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS®. Resu…
Dental and oral manifestations of celiac disease
2018
Background The objective of this study was to evaluate the dental and oral manifestations in patients with celiac disease. Material and Methods The sample consisted of 40 patients with the disease and 40 without the disease matched by age in southern Brazil. The CD group included patients previously diagnosed by positive anti-endomysial (IgA) examination and confirmed by small intestine biopsy. The presence of dental enamel defects and dental caries was evaluated by a calibrated researcher according to AINE’s and WHO’s criteria, respectively. The history of recurrent aphthous ulcers and dry mouth was obtained through reporting. For the evaluation of the salivary flow, the saliva samples wer…
Prevalence of Dentine Hypersensitivity in a General Dental Practice in Greece
