Junctional adhesion molecules JAM-B and JAM-C promote autoimmune-mediated liver fibrosis in mice

Fibrosis remains a serious health concern in patients with chronic liver disease. We recently reported that chemically induced chronic murine liver injury triggers increased expression of junctional adhesion molecules (JAMs) JAM-B and JAM-C by endothelial cells and de novo synthesis of JAM-C by hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Characterization and isolation of immature neurons of the adult mouse piriform cortex

Physiological studies indicate that the piriform or primary olfactory cortex of adult mammals exhibits a high degree of synaptic plasticity. Interestingly, a subpopulation of cells in the layer II of the adult piriform cortex expresses neurodevelopmental markers, such as the polysialylated form of neural cell adhesion molecule (PSA-NCAM) or doublecortin (DCX). The human Usher syndrome (USH) is a retinal ciliopathy, characterized by profound congenital deafness, variable vestibular dysfunction and pre-pubertal onset of retinitis pigmentosa. In the effected sensory cells, USH protein networks are assumed to function in ciliary transport processes. The USH1G protein SANS is a scaffold of the ciliary/periciliary USH protein network of photoreceptor cells. Pharmacological disruption of the MID1/α4 interaction reduces mutant Huntingtin levels in primary neuronal cultures.

Expression of mutant Huntingtin (HTT) protein is central to the pathophysiology of Huntington's Disease (HD). The E3 ubiquitin ligase MID1 appears to have a key role in facilitating translation of the mutant HTT mRNA suggesting that interference with the function of this complex could be an attractive therapeutic approach. Here we describe a peptide that is able to disrupt the interaction between MID1 and the α4 protein, a regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A). Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability in the modern society. Although primary prevention is the only strategy that can counteract the primary brain damage, numerous preclinical studies have been accumulated in order to find therapeutic strategies against the secondary damage.
