Scalar isoscalar pion pairs in nuclei and theA(π,ππ)Xreaction

The reaction A(pi,pi pi)X has been studied at low energies, paying particular attention to the interaction of the two final pions in the scalar isoscalar (I=J=0) channel. We have developed a microscopic model for the pion production, and then implemented the two pion final state interaction by using the results of a non-perturbative unitary coupled-channels method based in the standard chiral Lagrangians. The resulting model, describes well the reaction on the nucleon for all different isospin channels. Finally, we have considered the reaction in nuclei. Nuclear cross sections in 16O for β beam neutrinos at intermediate energies

The nuclear cross sections for charged lepton production induced by $\beta$ beam neutrinos (anti-neutrinos) in $^{16}$O have been presented at intermediate energies corresponding to the Lorentz boost factor $\gamma<250 (150)$. The calculations for quasi-elastic lepton production includes the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion and renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium. The calculations for the inelastic lepton production is done in the $\Delta$ dominance model. The renormalization of $\Delta$ properties in a nuclear medium and final state interactions of pions with the final nucleus are taken into account. Quasielastic neutrino (antineutrino) reactions in nuclei and the axial-vector form factor of the nucleon

Abstract Quasielastic neutrino and antineutrino reactions in nuclei are studied to investigate the effect of the nuclear medium on the determination of axial dipole mass M A in nuclei. The calculations are done in the local density approximation and various nuclear effects like Pauli blocking, Fermi motion of nucleons and strong renormalization effects in the spin-isospin channel are taken into account. The nuclear effects are found to be quite large at low q 2 , but the data in this region are too meagre to influence the determination of M A . We present the results of our calculation which has been performed to study the nuclear effects in the quasielastic, inelastic and deep inelastic scattering of neutrinos(antineutrinos) from nuclear targets. These calculations are done in the local density approximation. We take into account the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion, Coulomb effect, renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium in the case of the quasielastic reaction. Short range correlations in the pion s-wave self-energy of pionic atoms

We evaluate the contribution of second order terms to the pion-nucleus s-wave optical potential of pionic atoms generated by short range nuclear correlation. The corrections are sizeable because they involve the isoscalar s-wave $\pi N$ amplitude for half off-shell situations where the amplitude is considerably larger than the on-shell one. In addition, the s-wave optical potential is reanalyzed by looking at all the different conventional contributions together lowest order, Pauli corrected rescattering term, second order absorptive effects, terms from the interaction of pions with the virtual pion cloud (chiral corrections) and correlation effects. Eta in the nuclear medium within a chiral unitary approach

The self-energy of an eta meson in the nuclear medium is calculated in a chiral unitary approach. A coupled channel Bethe-Salpeter equation is solved to obtain the effective eta-N interaction in the medium. The base model reproduces well the free space pi-N elastic and inelastic scattering at the eta-N threshold or N^*(1535) region. The Pauli blocking on the nucleons, binding potentials for the baryons and self-energies of the mesons are incorporated, including the eta self-energy in a self-consistent way. Our calculation predicts about -54 -i29 MeV for the optical potential at normal nuclear matter for an eta at threshold but also shows a strong energy dependence of the potential.
Duality-invariant Einstein-Planck relation and the speed of light at very short wavelengths

We propose a generalized Einstein-Planck relation for photons which is invariant under the change $\ensuremath{\lambda}/a{l}_{P}$ to $a{l}_{P}/\ensuremath{\lambda}$, $\ensuremath{\lambda}$ being the photon wavelength, ${l}_{P}$ Planck's length, and $a$ a numerical constant. This yields a wavelength-dependent speed of light $v(\ensuremath{\lambda})=c/(1+{a}^{2}({l}_{P}/\ensuremath{\lambda}{)}^{2})$, with $c$ the usual speed of light in vacuo, indicating that the speed of light should decrease for sufficiently short wavelengths. Abstract The simpler imaging reconstruction methods used for γ-ray coded mask telescopes are based on correlation methods, very fast and simple-to-use but with limitations in the reconstructed image. To improve these results, other reconstruction methods have been developed, such as the maximum entropy methods or the Iterative Removal Of Sources (IROS). However, such kind of methods are slower and can be impracticable for very complex telescopes. Photoproduction of the Lambda(1405) on the proton and nuclei

We study the gamma p ---> K^+ Lambda(1405) reaction at energies close to threshold using a chiral unitary model where the resonance is generated dynamically from K^-p interaction with other channels constructed from the octets of baryons and mesons. Predictions are made for cross sections into several channels and it is shown that the detection of the K^+ is sufficient to determine the shape and strength of the Lambda(1405) resonance. The determination of the resonance properties in nuclei requires instead the detection of the resonance decay channels. Pauli blocking effects on the resonance, which have been shown to be very important for the resonance at rest in the nucleus, are irrelev…
