Zagrożenie bezpieczeństwa osadzonych w przestrzeni izolacji więziennej
2019
Pomimo wielu przeobrażeń systemowych i penitencjarnych zjawisko nieformalnej degradacji nadal występuje, a skazani poszkodowani (zdegradowani) reprezentują specyficzną grupę osób odbywających karę pozbawienia wolności.
Psychopathology and female detention at the “Pagliarelli” jail of Palermo: preliminary results
2018

The study included 25 women with a final sentence at the “Casa Circondariale Pagliarelli” from October 2016 to July 2017. The Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) was used to assess the presence of any current or lifetime psychia…

Parenting skills are expressed through providing care and support during a child's life- cycle; fatherhood is built up through a caring approach that facilitates the mentalization of parental relationships. Detention in a psychiatric prison represents a particular condition that influences the parental dimension negatively, both as a consequence of separation and the progressive loss of parenting skills. We analysed parenting skills (AAPI-2 Bavolek, Keene 1999) and parenting representations (semi-structured interview) in 4 fathers interned in a psychiatric prison. Data allowed us to highlight low-medium scores on the AAPI-2 scale and a tendency to renunciation of the parental role: fatherho…
'It's like a Sentence before the Sentence' - Exploring the Pains and Possibilities of Waiting for Imprisonment
2020
This article explores the implications of the ‘imprisonment queue’ in Norway. Based on interview data (N = 200), we show that while interviewees waiting to serve their sentences enjoy certain benefits such as being able to prepare for or negotiate the terms of their imprisonment, they also suffer from uncertainty and powerlessness. The suspension of their lives while they wait hinders them in pursuing their ground projects, things that really matter to them. This peculiar phenomenon has not received attention from prison scholars generally, as well as scholars writing on Nordic Exceptionalism specifically. This article addresses that gap and poses questions about the relative mildness of th…
