Biochar and Forage Peanut improve pastures: Evidence from a field experiment in Brazil

2023

Pasturelands, often degraded, represent most of the converted lands globally. It is important to understand how different pasture management approaches can improve soil quality, increase feed production and farmer income. Here, the impact of different soil enhancers on soil quality and productivity of three cultivars of Brachiaria (Syn. Urochloa) forage grass is presented. Soil enhancers included: biochar - a carbon-rich product from biomass pyrolysis, moinha (local charcoal residue), traditional fertiliser containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, lime, and forage peanut (Arachis pintoi cv. Amarillo). Considering the total biomass produced over the experiment (sum of four harvests), t…

The multidisciplinary origin of soil geography: A review

2018

Abstract Soil geography should be clearly recognized as a sub-discipline of physical geography and soil science, but at various times over the last century it was accepted as a complementary and descriptive sub-discipline of botany, agronomy and geology. In other words, there was not a clear consensus about its definition and origins. The main goal of this paper is to conduct a historical review (s. XX-XXI) of soil geography to clarify its origin, early methods, first authors and the importance of its interdisciplinary perspective within the scientific community. We found that soil geography was considerably advanced by the work of K.D. Glinka (1867–1927), one of Dokuchaev's students, who c…

Over-evaluation of total flavonoids in grape skin extracts containing sulphur dioxide

2015

Abstract Sulphur dioxide (SO 2 ) proved to increase absorbance at 280 nm of grape skin and seed extracts containing it, diluted with ethanol–HCl to assess total flavonoids and anthocyanins in the same analysis. Additional absorbance at 280 nm was also observed in acetone:H 2 O extracts, if the acetone had not completely evaporated before the extracts were diluted with a solvent. Flavonoids were correctly quantified in the extracts when SO 2 or acetone were removed by solid-phase extraction with a C 18 RP as sorbent and methanol as eluting solvent.

STUDY OF THE INTERNAL DYNAMICS OF NON PLANAR PYRAMIDAL MOLECULES IN VIBRATIONALY VERY EXCITED STATES.

2007

From the U (p+1) formalism, we built a Hamiltonian adapted to the stretching modes of nonplanar XY3 molecules having the C3v group of geometrical invariance. This Hamiltonian is then coupled with two possible Hamiltonians describing the bending modes of these molecular system: a) based on the U (p+1) approach, a bending Hamiltonian is developed and the interaction between the bending and the stretching modes is taking into account through adapted 2:1 resonance coupling operator defined as a Us(4) x Ub(4) enveloping algebra operator ; b) based on the standard normal modes formalism, a bending modes Hamiltonian is expanded and the 2:1 interaction is taken into account as a tensorial product o…

Algebraic study of pyramidal molecules in the very excited vibrational states.

2005

In the frame of the algebraic formalism U(p+1), we developed the method to build a vibrational Hamiltonian corresponding to a set of three identical oscillators. In order to test the model, we apply it to the molecules of stibine and arsine. We introduce a supplementary intermediate group K(3) inspired by the similar formalism used in nuclear physics. This group K(3) gives additional labels for classification of the energy levels. The eigenvalues of these invariant operators distinguish the local states of the molecule. Then we study the coupling of the vibrational modes of stretching and bending for the non plane XY3 molecules. We present the construction of an algebraic operator of coupli…

Different Pitch Configurations Constrain the Playing Tactics and the Creation of Goal Scoring Opportunities during Small Sided Games in Youth Soccer …

2021

The aim of this study was to explore the tactical effects of different pitch configurations on the collective playing tactics and the creation of goal scoring opportunities (GSO) during small sided soccer games (SSG) in youth players. A total of 22 players performed a 7 vs. 7 + 1 floater (including goalkeepers) under three different pitch configurations (“Standard”, 53 × 38 m

What Does Objective Mean in a Dirichlet-multinomial Process?

2017

Summary The Dirichlet-multinomial process can be seen as the generalisation of the binomial model with beta prior distribution when the number of categories is larger than two. In such a scenario, setting informative prior distributions when the number of categories is great becomes difficult, so the need for an objective approach arises. However, what does objective mean in the Dirichlet-multinomial process? To deal with this question, we study the sensitivity of the posterior distribution to the choice of an objective Dirichlet prior from those presented in the available literature. We illustrate the impact of the selection of the prior distribution in several scenarios and discuss the mo…

The Role of a Second Reservoir in an Open BCS Model

2005

In this paper we use the stochastic limit approach (SLA) in order to analyze some generalized versions of the open BCS model first introduced by Buffet and Martin and recently analyzed by the author using the SLA. In particular, considering different models, we discuss the role of a second reservoir interacting with the first one (but not with the system) in the computation of the critical temperature corresponding to the transition from a normal to a superconducting phase.

Price convergence of peripheral European countries on the way to the EMU: A time series approach

2000

This paper examines price and inflation convergence between three European countries (Italy, Spain and the U.K.) and a European average and, alternatively, between them and Germany from the beginning of the 80's.
