Affordances and constraints: Second language learning in cleaning work

This paper examines opportunities for language learning in a cleaning job, which is a typical entry-level job for immigrants. An ethnographic case study approach is taken to investigate examples of the conditions that allow or prevent language learning for the focal participant, a sub-Saharan man who works as a cleaner in Finland. This case illustrates on a micro-scale the impact of the new economy on a worker in a company that has outsourced its cleaning services. This paper aims to provide an overview of anglophone literature on historical lexicography. It begins by defining history and lexicography in order to explore possible relationships between them. What follows is a critical discussion of two analytical perspectives: “history in lexicography” and “lexicography in history.” The former seeks to explain what historical information is, how history has permeated dictionaries, particularly those compiled on historical principles, and why the historical dictionary needs to be re-interpreted along new lines. Esošs pētījums studē sievietes tēlu trīs antīkajos romānos: Trojas Romānā, Fīvu Romānā un Enejas Romānā. Tie ir uzrakstīti 12.gadsimtā un skaitās ka stārpnieciskais etaps starp episku dziesmu un kurtuāzu romānu, kur sieviešķu varoņu klātbūtne spēlē svarīgu lomu. Esoša pētījuma mērķis ir sieviešu varoņu semantiska studēšana lai rekonstruētu sievietes prototipisku tēlu literatūrā. Mēs pielietojam izotopijas pieeju lai identificētu korpusa vienības, kas atbilst mūsu pētījuma problemātikai. Pēc tām mēs pakļaujam tās vienības smantiskajai analīzei un pielietojam prototīpa teoriju. Towards Quantifying Non-Photosynthetic Vegetation for Agriculture Using Spaceborne Imaging Spectroscopy

Non-photosynthetic vegetation (NPV) has been identified as priority variable in the context of new spaceborne imaging spectroscopy missions. In this study we provide a first attempt to quantify NPV biomass from these unprecedented data streams to be provided by multiple recently launched or planned instruments. A hybrid workflow is proposed including Gaussian process regression (GPR) trained over radiative transfer model (RTM) simulations and applying active learning strategies. Spray-dried microparticles of a derivative of hyaluronic acid (HA) have been engineered to obtain a controlled aggregation with Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells (hMSCs) into 3D constructs. We demonstrated the utility of chemical functionalization of a native constituent of the extracellular matrix to improve processing performances and to control on stem cell adhesion and differentiation.
