Force Platform Balance Measures as Predictors of Indoor and Outdoor Falls in Community-Dwelling Women Aged 63-76 Years

Background. Inability to maintain balance while standing increases risk of falls in older people. The present study assessed whether center of pressure (COP) movement measured with force platform technology predicts risk for falls among older people with no manifest deficiency in standing balance. Methods. Participants were 434 community-dwelling women, aged 63-76 years. COP was measured in six stances on a force platform. Following balance tests, participants reported their falls with 12 monthly calendars. En el presente trabajo se pretende interesar al lector en el análisis del fenómeno del alcoholismo femenino. Se tratan diversos temas como el contexto en el que se socializan las mujeres, teniendo en cuenta los cambios acaecidos en la familia como institución y el rol de la mujer en la sociedad. Otra cuestión con referencia a ese contexto es la prevalencia del consumo de alcohol en el colectivo de mujeres en España y las nuevas tendencias de dicho consumo. Wulff shape characterizations in overdetermined anisotropic elliptic problems

We study some overdetermined problems for possibly anisotropic degenerate elliptic PDEs, including the well-known Serrin's overdetermined problem, and we prove the corresponding Wulff shape characterizations by using some integral identities and just one pointwise inequality. Our techniques provide a somehow unified approach to this variety of problems.

Thin obstacle problem : Estimates of the distance to the exact solution

We consider elliptic variational inequalities generated by obstacle type problems with thin obstacles. For this class of problems, we deduce estimates of the distance (measured in terms of the natural energy norm) between the exact solution and any function that satisfies the boundary condition and is admissible with respect to the obstacle condition (i.e., they are valid for any approximation regardless of the method by which it was found). Computation of the estimates does not require knowledge of the exact solution and uses only the problem data and an approximation. Multiple periodic solutions for Hamiltonian systems with not coercive potential

Under an appropriate oscillating behavior of the nonlinear term, the existence of infinitely many periodic solutions for a class of second order Hamiltonian systems is established. Moreover, the existence of two non-trivial periodic solutions for Hamiltonian systems with not coercive potential is obtained, and the existence of three periodic solutions for Hamiltonian systems with coercive potential is pointed out. On the stability of the Serrin problem

We investigate stability issues concerning the radial symmetry of solutions to Serrin's overdetermined problems. In particular, we show that, if $u$ is a solution to $\Delta u=n$ in a smooth domain $\Omega \subset \rn$, $u=0$ on $\partial\Omega$ and $|Du|$ is close to 1 on $\partial\Omega$, then $\Omega$ is close to the union of a certain number of disjoint unitary balls.

A geometrical criterion for nonexistence of constant-sign solutions for some third-order two-point boundary value problems

We give a simple geometrical criterion for the nonexistence of constant-sign solutions for a certain type of third-order two-point boundary value problem in terms of the behavior of nonlinearity in the equation. We also provide examples to illustrate the applicability of our results.

Abstract The aim of hybrid inverse problems such as Acousto-Electric Tomography or Current Density Imaging is the reconstruction of the electrical conductivity in a domain that can only be accessed from its exterior. The Windy clustered prize-collecting arc-routing problem

2011

This paper introduces the windy clustered prize-collecting arc-routing problem. It is an arc-routing problem where each demand edge is associated with a profit that is collected once if the edge is serviced, independent of the number of times the edge is traversed. It is further required that if a demand edge is serviced, then all the demand edges of its component are also serviced. A mathematical programming formulation is given and some polyhedral results including several facet-defining and valid inequalities are presented. The separation problem for the different families of inequalities is studied. Numerical results from computational experiments are analyzed. © 2011 INFORMS.
