Effect of EDTA root conditioning on the healing of intrabony defects treated with an enamel matrix protein derivative.
2006
Contains fulltext : 49580.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) BACKGROUND: Regenerative periodontal therapy with an enamel matrix protein derivative (EMD) has been shown to promote regeneration in intrabony periodontal defects. However, in most clinical studies, root surface conditioning with EDTA was performed in conjunction with the application of EMD, and, therefore, it cannot be excluded that the results may also be attributable to the effect of the root conditioning procedure. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of root conditioning on the healing of intrabony defects treated with EMD. METHODS: Twenty-four patients, each of whom exhibited one deep intrabony defect…
Diversity and dynamic changes of anelloviruses in plasma following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
2020
Monitoring of alphatorquevirus (torque teno virus [TTV]) DNA in plasma may prove to be useful to assess the net state of immune competence following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). There are scarce data published on the prevalence of beta (torque teno mini virus [TTMV]) and gammatorqueviruses (torque teno midi virus [TTMDV]) and, in particular, on the dynamics of anelloviruses in allo-HSCT patients. Twenty-five allo-HSCT recipients with available plasma specimens obtained before conditioning and after engraftment were included. Degenerated primers targeting a highly conserved genomic sequence across all anelloviruses were designed for genomic amplification an…
Prophylactic transfer of CD8-depleted donor lymphocytes after T-cell–depleted reduced-intensity transplantation
2006
AbstractAllogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (SCT) regimens incorporating the lymphocytotoxic CD52 antibody alemtuzumab demonstrate efficient engraftment and reduced graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). However, these protocols substantially impair posttransplantation antiviral and antitumor immunity. To accelerate immune reconstitution after alemtuzumab-based reduced-intensity SCT, we administered prophylactic CD8-depleted donor lymphocyte infusions (DLIs) starting on days 60 and 120 after transplantation. DLIs were processed in an immunomagnetic good manufacturing practice depletion procedure resulting in a 2.5- to 6-log reduction in CD8 T cells. Of 23 high-risk patients with h…
Frameless Neuronavigation Applied to Endoscopic Neurosurgery
2000
Objective: We retrospectively analyzed the indications, surgical techniques, and applicability of frameless neuronavigation to endoscopic procedures in a heterogeneous group of 15 patients. Material and Methods: In 8 patients indications for surgery were cystic lesions, in 3 patients intraventricular tumors, and in 4 patients occlusive hydrocephalus. The mean age was 39 years (range 9 - 76 years). The follow-up period ranged from 5 - 24 months (mean 10 months). Frameless neuronavigation was accomplished with the “operating arm system” in 10 cases and with the “optical tracking system” in 5 cases (RADIONICS, Burlington, USA). Results: In all 15 cases, neuronavigation sufficiently provided an…
Agreement of white-to-white measurements with the IOLMaster 700, Atlas 9000, and Sirius systems
2018
Current advances in ocular surgery require the evaluation of differences in automated white-to-white (WTW) measurements between systems. We aim to analyze three different commonly used devices in clinical practice: the IOLMaster 700, the Atlas 9000, and the Sirius.Ninety right eyes of ninety healthy subjects were included. Measurements of WTW distances were taken with each device for all subjects in the same session and by the same observer. Statistical comparison was carried out by means of the rANOVA procedure and the Bonferroni post-hoc test. In addition, the Bland-Altman analysis was applied in order to perform pairwise comparisons.Average WTW values obtained by the IOLMaster 700, the A…
Pooled analysis of who surgical safety checklist use and mortality after emergency laparotomy
2019
Background The World Health Organization (WHO) Surgical Safety Checklist has fostered safe practice for 10 years, yet its place in emergency surgery has not been assessed on a global scale. The aim of this study was to evaluate reported checklist use in emergency settings and examine the relationship with perioperative mortality in patients who had emergency laparotomy. Methods In two multinational cohort studies, adults undergoing emergency laparotomy were compared with those having elective gastrointestinal surgery. Relationships between reported checklist use and mortality were determined using multivariable logistic regression and bootstrapped simulation. Results Of 12 296 patients incl…
Incidence, features, and outcomes of cytomegalovirus DNAemia in unmanipulated haploidentical allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation with …
2019
Background Conflicting data have been published as to the risk of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNAemia and CMV disease in patients undergoing haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) with post-transplantation cyclophosphamide. Methods We conducted a multicenter retrospective study including 118 patients subjected to unmanipulated haplo-HSCT to further clarify this issue. An historic cohort comprising 165 patients undergoing other transplant modalities (HLA-matched related, matched unrelated or mismatched) was built for comparison purposes. Plasma CMV DNA monitoring was performed using two highly sensitive real-time PCR assays. Results Overall, the cumulative incidence of…
Influence of CYP3A5 and ABCB1 gene polymorphisms and other factors on tacrolimus dosing in Caucasian liver and kidney transplant patients
2011
Tacrolimus is a substrate of cytochrome P4503A (CYP3A) enzymes as well as of the drug transporter ABCB1. We have investigated the possible influence of CYP3A5 and ABCB1 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and other factors (e.g. albumin, hematocrit and steroids) on tacrolimus blood levels achieved in a population of Caucasian liver (n=51) and kidney (n=50) transplant recipients. At 1, 3 and 6 months after transplantation, tacrolimus doses (mg/kg/day) and trough blood levels (C0) were recorded and the weight-adjusted tacrolimus dosage (mg/kg/day) was calculated. Polymerase chain reaction followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis was used for genotyping CYP3A5*1 and *3 …
Bilateral ureteral obstruction and renal failure caused by massive retroperitoneal hematoma: is there a pelvic compartment syndrome analogous to abdo…
1998
Objectives: To describe an intrapelvic compartment syndrome analogous to abdominal compartment syndrome and to characterize its diagnosis and treatment. Design: Retrospective analysis. Setting: Level I trauma center. Patients: Three patients with pelvic ring or acetabular fractures presented with bilateral ureteral obstruction, renal organ failure. and anuria due to direct compression of both ureters in the true pelvis by a massive retroperitoneal hematoma, Intervention: Surgical therapy consisted of fracture stabilization, decompression of the retroperitoneal space, and evacuation of the hematoma. Persistent isolated bleeding points were either embolized preoperatively or ligated. Results:…
Role of clinical and laboratory parameters for treatment choice in patients with inherited FVII deficiency undergoing surgical procedures: evidence f…
2018
Perioperative bleeding is a major concern in patients with factor VII (FVII) deficiency. Evaluating data of 95 FVII-deficient patients undergoing 110 surgical procedures (61 major, 49 minor), we assessed the impact of type of surgery, bleeding phenotype and FVII coagulant activity (FVII:C) levels on perioperative replacement therapy (RT). Compared to those with higher FVII:C levels, patients with <3% FVII:C received a higher number of RT doses (8 vs. 2, P = 0·003) for a longer RT duration (3 days vs. 1 day, P = 0·001), with no difference in RT dose. Similarly, patients with a history of major bleeds received a higher number of RT doses (8·5 vs. 2-3, P = 0·013) for a longer RT duration (2…
