Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured Cobalt Hexacyanoferrate
2010
Cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF) nanoparticles have been synthesized by mixing aqueous solutions of K3Fe(CN)6 and CoCl2 under vigorous stirring at different temperatures and following two different procedures, drop-by-drop or immediate mixing. The resulting CoHCF nanoparticles, with dimensions of several tens of nanometers, were characterized using TEM, SEM-EDX, IR, and XRD. Their electrochemical behavior was investigated in comparison with the CoHCF powder bulk compound. The CoHCF nanoparticles exhibit an electrochemically driven conversion to the bulk one that has been investigated by a chemometric approach in order to establish the best synthetic parameters. The rate and the degree of con…
Prediction and analysis of high velocity oxy fuel (HVOF) sprayed coating using artificial neural network
2019
Abstract Thermal spray comprises a group of coating processes for coating manufacturing in which metallic or nonmetallic materials are deposited in a molten or semi-molten condition. Most often, the coating properties are significantly influenced by the operating parameters. However, obtaining a comprehensive modeling or analytical analysis of the thermal spray process is too difficult to be practical due to the complex chemical and thermodynamic reactions. Accordingly, the present study aims at applying an artificial neural network (ANN) model to predict the HVOF sprayed Cr3C2−25NiCr coatings and analyze the influence of operating parameters regardless of the intermediate process. The proce…
A Brief Review on the Resistance-in-Series Model in Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs)
2019
The cake layer deposited on the membrane modules of membrane bioreactors (MBRs), especially under a submerged configuration, represents a relevant and fundamental mechanism deeply influencing the development of membrane fouling. It negatively affects the total resistance to filtration, while exerting a positive effect as a “pre-filter„ promoting the “dynamic membrane„ that protects the physical membrane from internal fouling. These two opposite phenomena should be properly managed, where the submerged membranes are usually subjected to a periodical cake layer removal through ordinary (permeate backwashing and air scouring) and/or irregular cleaning actions (manual ph…
Biodegradable Polymers for the Production of Nets for Agricultural Product Packaging
2021
It is well known that the need for more environmentally friendly materials concerns, among other fields, the food packaging industry. This regards also, for instance, nets used for agricultural product (e.g., citrus fruits, potatoes) packaging. These nets are typically manufactured by film blowing technique, with subsequent slicing of the films and cold drawing of the obtained strips, made from traditional, non-biodegradable polymer systems. In this work, two biodegradable polymer systems were characterized from rheological, processability, and mechanical points of view, in order to evaluate their suitability to replace polyethylene-based polymer systems typically used for agricultural prod…
Design of a reactor operating in supercritical water conditions using CFD simulations. Examples of synthesized nanomaterials
2011
International audience; Direct information about fluids under supercritical water conditions is unfeasible due to the engineering restrictions at high pressure and high temperature. Numerical investigations based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations are widely used in order to get extensive information on the fluid behavior, particularly to help the design of a new reactor. This paper presents the numerical investigations performed on an original supercritical water device, especially in the level of the reactor. CFD calculations allow to design and optimize the present reactor described in this study. Currently, this process produces some nanometric oxide powders in continuou…
Application of the slurry technique to biological materials: a survey of literature
1991
The literature on the application of the slurry technique to biological materials is reviewed. It is obvious from the various applications that the most frequently employed atomization method for slurry analysis in biological materials is electrothermal atomization using either graphite tube or platform atomizers. The slurry technique is particularly useful when certified reference materials are not available and when the standard addition method is to be avoided. The literature survey revealed that this technique compares favourably with other methods for the determination of trace metals in biological materials.
Linear assembly of lead bromide-based nanoparticles inside lead(ii) polymers prepared by mixing the precursors of both the nanoparticle and the polym…
2019
Mixing precursors of lead(ii) polymers with those of lead bromide-based nanoparticles (CH3NH3PbBr3 perovskites or PbBr2), at room temperature and in the presence of cyclohexanemethylammonium bromide, generated colloidal nanocomposites which, when deposited on a hydrophobic surface led to long, one-dimensional, ordered and well-defined architectures. ispartof: CHEMICAL COMMUNICATIONS vol:55 issue:20 pages:2968-2971 ispartof: location:England status: published
Comparative study of the lubricant performance of Compritol 888 ATO either used by blending or by hot melt coating.
2003
Compritol 888 ATO is used as a lubricant in oral solid dosage formulations. It can also be used as a hot melt coating agent sprayed onto a powder. In this study, we compare the lubricant performance of Compritol 888 ATO either used by classical blending or by hot melt coating onto Lactopress by compression tests. In physical mix, the Compritol concentration does not affect the compressibility. The same compressibility is obtained with lactose coated by 0.5 or 1% of Compritol, but a higher compressibility can be observed with 2 and 3%. Cohesiveness of lactose depends on the process: hot melt coating induces a decrease of tablet tensile strength. In terms of forces transmission during compres…
Role of continuous moisture profile monitoring by inline NIR spectroscopy during fluid bed granulation of an Enalapril formulation
2010
Granulation and tableting are closely related process steps in the supply chain of pharmaceutical products. Even today, these steps are still optimized independently by trial and error. On the framework of a process analytical technology approach, these processes were evaluated in an integrated approach. Enalapril maleate is a low-dose drug substance with poor granulating and tableting behavior. In order to verify how granulation influences tableting properties, different granulation experiments were performed.Granulation experiments with fast spraying rate and fast drying as well as fast spraying rate and slow drying, and also combinations of both were run. The obtained granules were then …
Thermoeletric Heusler Compounds
2015
Thermoelectric converters for power generation aim at reducing CO\(_2\) emission via the conversion of a part of the low-grade waste heat generated by engines, industrial furnaces, gas pipes, etc. to electricity. The recovery of waste heat from the exhaust of an automotive engine, in particular, is an attractive, albeit not very efficient way for reduction of fuel consumption. Thermoelectric converters with high overall efficiency convert heat directly into electricity without moving parts and, thus, not only decrease our reliance on fossil fuels but also actively counteract global warming. State-of-the-art converters are simply too inefficient to be economic, partly due to expensive elemen…
