Critical Experiences During the Implementation of a Self-tracking Technology

2016

Emerging technologies have brought several new ways to track, measure and evaluate own activity. Well-being, nutrition, physical training, mood, and sleep are a few of the various measures that can be self-tracked by different technological solutions. At the same time, people are becoming more interested in themselves and their own well-being, and constant tracking of own activities is getting more and more popular both on individual level as well as in general healthcare. This study examines critical experiences that occur during the implementation phase of the innovation-decision process and their influence to adopting or rejecting a self-tracking technology. The study is qualitative in n…

2019

The article presents the preliminary assessment of the activities undertaken in the Opolskie Voivodeship in connection with the implementation of the regional innovation strategy for 2014–2018. In particular, attention is focused on issues related to the methodology of identifying the so-called “smart specializations” and their practical dimension. The subject of the analysis are issues related to transport and logistics, because these areas were highlighted in both strategies – of regional development and the innovation strategy. Moreover, that sustainable transport for the mobility of residents is one of the 10 priority axes of the Opolskie Voivodeship’s Operational Program. The n + 3 rul…

Anomalous and normal Hall effect in hydrogenated amorphous Si prepared by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition

2010

The double sign anomaly of the Hall coefficient has been studied in p -doped and n -doped hydrogenated amorphous silicon grown by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition and annealed up to 500 °C. Dark conductivity as a function of temperature has been measured, pointing out a conduction mechanism mostly through the extended states. Anomalous Hall effect has been observed only in the as-deposited n -doped film, disappearing after annealing at 500 °C, while p -doped samples exhibit normal Hall effect. When Hall anomaly is present, a larger optical band gap and a greater Raman peak associated with Si-H bond are measured in comparison with the cases of normal Hall effect. The Hall anomaly wi…

Post-synthesis alumination of MCM-41: Effect of the acidity on the HDS activity of supported Pd catalysts

2010

Abstract Siliceous MCM-41 with different amount of alumina, from 0.25 up to 4.0 wt%, were prepared by impregnation of the MCM-41 with aqueous solution of Al(NO) 3 ·9H 2 O. The modified mesoporous silicas were then used as supports for Pd catalysts prepared by wet-impregnation from PdCl 2 precursor. Supports and corresponding Pd catalysts were characterized by XRD, XPS and NH 3 -TPD. The catalytic behavior was tested in the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) reaction of thiophene. An increase of the hydrodesulfurization activity with increasing alumina amount up to 0.5 wt% was observed. On the basis of the acidity change of the support and the structural modification underwent by the deposited palla…

Lignin-based activated carbon-supported metal oxide catalysts in lactic acid production from glucose

2021

Abstract In this study, heterogeneous biomass-based activated carbon-supported metal oxide catalysts were prepared and tested for lactic acid production from glucose in aqueous solution. Activated carbons were produced from hydrolysis lignin by chemical (ZnCl2) or steam activation and modified with a nitric acid treatment and Sn, Al, and Cr chlorides to obtain carbon-based metal oxide catalysts. The modification of the carbon support by nitric acid treatment together with Sn and Al oxides led to an increase in lactic acid yield. The highest lactic acid yield (42 %) was obtained after 20 min at 180 °C with the Sn/Al (5/2.5 wt.%) catalyst on steam-activated carbon treated by nitric acid. Reus…

TAP reactor study of the deep oxidation of propane using cobalt oxide and gold-containing cobalt oxide catalysts

2009

Abstract A transient reactor study of the oxidation of propane to CO 2 on gold-free and gold-doped CoO x catalysts has been carried out. It has been demonstrated that the presence of gold markedly promotes the catalytic reactivity of cobalt oxide in the total oxidation of propane. Both catalysts oxidised propane directly to CO 2 via a Mars–Van Krevelen mechanism, and this was confirmed using isotopically labelled oxygen experiments. The increased activity of the gold catalyst is related to the faster reoxidation of the cobalt oxide when gold is present in the catalyst, since the reaction step in which the catalyst is reduced, due to propane oxidation, is similar for both catalysts. The fast…

The effect of gold addition on the catalytic performance of copper manganese oxide catalysts for the total oxidation of propane

2011

Mixed copper manganese oxide catalysts (Hopcalite) have been studied for the total oxidation of propane, as a model for hydrocarbon volatile organic compound emission control. Catalysts were prepared using coprecipitation with and without gold. Calcination temperature influenced the catalyst activity and those prepared at 300 °C were the most active. Characterization showed that the catalysts had a nanowire-type morphology, and for those containing gold it was present as metallic particles occluded within the nanowires. The incorporation of gold into the catalyst enhanced the activity for propane conversion, but the presence of gold did not noticeably enhance the light-off activity. Althou…

Effects of NH3 and alkaline metals on the formation of particulate sulfate and nitrate in wintertime Beijing

2020

Sulfate and nitrate from secondary reactions remain as the most abundant inorganic species in atmospheric particle matter (PM). Their formation is initiated by oxidation (either in gas phase or particle phase), followed by neutralization reaction primarily by NH3, or by other alkaline species such as alkaline metal ions if available. The different roles of NH3 and metal ions in neutralizing H2SO4 or HNO3, however, are seldom investigated. Here we conducted semi-continuous measurements of SO4 2−, NO3 −, NH4 +, and their gaseous precursors, as well as alkaline metal ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+) in wintertime Beijing. Analysis of aerosol acidity (estimated from a thermodynamic model) indicat…
