Estimación de la velocidad de flujo del agua en cauces efímeros no aforados a partir de datos Lidar y GPS-RTK
2013
The Manning formula is one of the most used to calculate the average velocity of water flow in ungauged channels. In order to be applied, it is necessary to measure in field the hydraulic radius (RH), the slope of the water surface (S), and to obtain the roughness coefficient (n), usually through tables created for this purpose. This involves a difficult, inefficient and subjective data collection in the field. This study evaluates the possibility to obtain these parameters in a more efficient manner, reducing the time of the process and allowing to work in larger areas. To achieve these objectives, the data used in this work were: 1) digital terrain models generated from airborne LiDAR dat…
Análisis comparativo de conflictos territoriales: el caso de Poblats Maritims (Valencia, España) y el distrito Sud-Ouest (Montreal, Canadá)
2014
This paper makes a comparative analysis of territorial conflicts in two districts in two different cities: Valencia in Spain and Montreal in Canada. These two industrial districts are experiencing a deep physical transformation, which has led numerous protests and locational conflicts To do that, a systematic database of conflicts appeared in the last 15 years in each district (Poblats Maritims district in Valencia and Sud-Ouest in Montreal) was set up. We establish finally some interesting conclusions about the relationship between the emergence
Shoreline Extraction and Change Detection using 1:5000 Scale Orthophoto Maps: A Case Study of Latvia-Riga
2015
Coastal management requires rapid, up-to-date, and
correct information. Thus, the determination of coastal movements and its
directions has primary importance for coastal managers. For monitoring the
change of shorelines, remote sensing data, very high resolution aerial images
and orthophoto maps are utilized for detections of change on shorelines. It is
possible to monitor coastal changes by extracting the coastline from orthophoto
maps. Along the Baltic Sea and Riga Gulf, Latvian coastline length is 496 km.
It is rich of coastal resources and natural biodiversity.  Around 120 km of coastline are affected by
 significant coastal chang…
Numerical Investigation of a Wood-Chip Downdraft Gasifier
2019
Biomass gasification is regarded as one of the most promising technology in the renewable energy field. The outcome of such operation, i.e. the synfuel, can be exploited in several ways, for example powering engines and turbines, and is considered more flexible than the biomass itself. For this reason, a careful analysis of the gasification performance is of paramount importance for the optimization of the process. One of the techniques that can be used for such a purpose, is the numerical analysis. CFD is indeed a tool that can be of great help in the design and study of the operation of the gasifier, allowing for an accurate prediction of the operating parameters. In this work, a downdraf…
The possibilities of energy storage in bulk materials
2018
The increased demand for energy from renewable sources entails the development of storage systems. The purpose of these systems is to supply energy on demand during periods which may not be concurrent with the time of the most efficient production of this energy. Various systems are being developed for storing energy in various forms and over various lengths of time. This paper presents selected projects and the results of studies into thermal energy storage. The results of the present author's own research into the transport of thermal energy in granular beds are also presented. The curves of temperature distribution have been determined; they are essential for the design of the thermal sto…
Emotional Intelligence and Psychobiosocial States: Mediating Effects of Intra-Team Communication and Role Ambiguity
2020
Emotional intelligence is an important variable related to the interaction and functioning of sports teams. The present study examined the relationship between players’ trait emotional intelligence and functional and dysfunctional psychobiosocial states. In particular, we examined the mediating effects of intra-team communication efficacy and role ambiguity in this relationship. The participants were 291 (174 men and 117 women) Italian players involved in various team sports (i.e., futsal, soccer, volleyball, handball, and rugby). They completed a multi-section questionnaire assessing the study variables during the early/middle part of their competitive seasons. Structural equation modeling…
COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS IN SMES AND IN LARGE COMPANIES
2012
This article presents the importance of the decisional act in the entrepreneurial process, trying to emphasize its implications in various situations faced by managers and decision factors. Starting with the classic definition of the “decision” concept, this paper extends its meaning by applying it on the economic field and by deepening its meaning in the economic field, shaping the imperative requests a decision has to make. Narrowing the research field to the sphere of small and medium-sized enterprises, the analysis of the decision is made on their level, being built on the antithesis SME- large company. The results of the study consist in the appreciation of the importance the decision …
Optical Methods for River Monitoring: A Simulation-Based Approach to Explore Optimal Experimental Setup for LSPIV
2021
Recent advances in image-based methods for environmental monitoring are opening new frontiers for remote streamflow measurements in natural environments. Such techniques offer numerous advantages compared to traditional approaches. Despite the wide availability of cost-effective devices and software for image processing, these techniques are still rarely systematically implemented in practical applications, probably due to the lack of consistent operational protocols for both phases of images acquisition and processing. In this work, the optimal experimental setup for LSPIV based flow velocity measurements under different conditions is explored using the software PIVlab, investigating perfo…
Decision-Making Tools to Manage the Microbiology of Drinking Water Distribution Systems
2020
[EN] This paper uses a two-fold multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach applied for the first time to the field of microbial management of drinking water distribution systems (DWDS). Specifically, the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) was applied removing the need for reliance on expert judgement, and analysed interdependencies among water quality parameters and microbiological characteristics of DWDS composed of different pipe materials. In addition, the fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (FTOPSIS) ranked the most common bacteria identified during trials in a DWDS according to their relative abundance while managing vagueness…
