Brain event-related potentials (ERPs) measured at birth predict later language development in children with and without familial risk for dyslexia.

We report associations between brain event-related potentials (ERPs) measured from newborns with and without familial risk for dyslexia and these same children's later language and verbal memory skills at 2.5, 3.5, and 5 years of age. ERPs to synthetic consonant-vowel syllables (/ba/, /da/, /ga/; presented equiprobably with 3,910-7,285 msec interstimulus intervals) were recorded from 26 newborns at risk for familial dyslexia and 23 control infants participating in the Jyvaskyla Longitudinal Study of Dyslexia. A CAD system for nodule detection in low-dose lung CTs based on region growing and a new active contour model

A computer-aided detection (CAD) system for the selection of lung nodules in computer tomography (CT) images is presented. The system is based on region growing (RG) algorithms and a new active contour model (ACM), implementing a local convex hull, able to draw the correct contour of the lung parenchyma and to include the pleural nodules. 3×3 Technique for RGB Snapshot Mapping of Skin Chromophores

Three monochromatic spectral images have been extracted from a single RGB image data set at simultaneous illumination of skin by 473nm, 532nm and 609nm spectral lines. They were further transformed into distribution maps of three skin chromophores - melanin, oxy-hemoglobin and deoxy-hemoglobin, related to pigmented and vascular skin malformations. Performance and clinical potential of the proposed 3×3 technique is discussed.

Eye Kinematics of Athletes in Non-Familiar Sports Situations

Biological motion can hardly be imitated, starting from how a person observes and learns motor behaviour. We recorded eye movements of 13 female ball games athletes and 13 age-matched controls observing videos of unfamiliar sports. The athletes are better at alternating between faster and slower eye movement modalities. They initially use longer but fewer fixations than the non-athletes.
