To assess the accuracy and precision of a software-aided system to measure migration of femoral components after total hip replacement (THR) on digitised radiographs.Subsidence and varus-valgus tilt of THR stems within the femur were measured on digitised anteroposterior pelvic radiographs. The measuring software (UMA, GEMED, Germany) relies on bony landmarks and comparability parameters of two consecutive radiographs. Its accuracy and precision were calculated by comparing it with the gold standard in migration measurements, radiostereometric analysis (RSA). Abstract The use of cement by nuclear industry for confining low radioactive waste knows a constant increase. The interest bore to this material is due to its mechanical and chemical properties. However, these properties may be modified by the nature and the amount of wastes introduced with the mixing solution especially with large amount of phosphate. Precipitation of hydroxylapatite in the cement paste at the very beginning after mixing was emphasized from a particular concentration of orthophosphate. Posterior perilunate carpal dislocation associated with a multifragmentary distal radius fracture.

Summary Dorsal perilunate wrist dislocations are rare. Associated carpal bones or radial styloid process fractures can occur and be included in the current classifications. The authors report an unusual association of dorsal perilunate wrist dislocation with a multifragmentary distal radius fracture. Such traumatic entity has never been previously described. Poor functional outcome may justify the inclusion of associated complex forearm bone fractures in wrist dislocation classifications.

This chapter overviews the theoretical basics of geometric morphometrics (GM) and reviews its potential for the study of hominin vertebrae and vertebral columns. We show that challenges are related to seriality and the metameric nature of the spine. Measuring a series of vertebrae is a time-consuming process because the necessary sample sizes need to be multiplied by the number of vertebrae composing the spine or its anatomical parts. In this paper a wearable sensor system, consisting of accelerometers and gyros, has been studied to estimate hip and knee angles. The proposed algorithm, developed in order to avoid the error accumulation due to gyroscopes drift, has been tested on angle measurement of the hip and knee of a commercial device for assisted gait. Patellar tendon donor defect (PTDD) healing after patellar tendon autograft (PTA), was evaluated in 12 lambs (24 knees), by means of conventional histology, immunohistochemistry and image analysis. The results of this study indicate that the PTDD is replaced by a tissue that does not assume the histological characteristics of a normal patellar tendon.
