Connectivity assessment in Mediterranean vineyards using improved stock unearthing method, LiDAR and soil erosion field surveys
2018
The interaction between processes and landforms is accelerated in vineyards due to bare tilled soils that enhance splash, runoff, and erosion. Traditionally, in order to assess these processes, the stock unearthing method (SUM) is considered a useful methodology that uses the graft union of the vine plant as passive bio-indicator of the topsoil level changes. However, SUM assumes that the topography between the rows is planar when development of a model of the current micro-topography is performed. Thus, we consider that there is a need to develop a new methodology (ISUM: improved SUM) that, by adding new measurements in the inter-row areas (at least 3), allows inclusion of the absent micro…
Revisiting the disappearance of terrestrial dissolved organic matter in the ocean: a <i>δ</i>13&lt…
2014
Abstract. Organic carbon (OC) depleted in 13C is a widely used tracer for terrestrial organic matter (OM) in aquatic systems. Photochemical reactions can, however, change δ13C of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) when chromophoric, aromatic-rich terrestrial OC is selectively mineralized. We assessed the robustness of the δ13C signature of DOC (δ13CDOC) as a tracer for terrestrial OM by estimating its change during the photobleaching of chromophoric DOM (CDOM) from 10 large rivers. These rivers cumulatively account for approximately one-third of the world's freshwater discharge to the global ocean. Photobleaching of CDOM by simulated solar radiation was associated with the photochemical mineral…
Cenomanian–Turonian carbonate and organic-carbon isotope records, biostratigraphy and provenance of a key section in NE Sicily, Italy: Palaeoceanogra…
2008
In eastern Sicily, a series of highly organic-rich black shales occur as exotic blocks (~ 100 m across) floating in tectonized sediments (Argille Varicolori Unit containing olistoliths of Cretaceous-Palaeogene age). A 19-metre section, through one of these blocks near the town of Novara di Sicilia, includes cyclically bedded black shales, marlstones and claystones, which have been dated using planktonic foraminiferal and nannofossil biostratigraphy. On this basis, the section is assigned to the latest Cenomanian and clearly represents a manifestation of the Oceanic Anoxic Event characteristic of that interval. Total organic-carbon values range up to 23% and the relatively high hydrogen indi…
Sediment-associated retene bioavailability of sediment-associated retene to an oligochaete wormlumbriculus variegatus
2001
The bioavailability of retene spiked to two sediment concentrations (50 and 200 µg/g dry weight) was measured in long-term (28-day) bioaccumulation tests performed on the oligochaeteLumbriculus variegatus Muller. Three sediment organic carbon (SOC) concentrations (1.1, 3.0, 23.0% of dry weight) were used. Growth and reproduction, used as endpoints, indicated that retene was chronically nontoxic at the concentrations employed. Retene was clearly bioavailable, but bioaccumulated about 100 times less in the SOC-rich (23.0%) sediment than in the other two (SOC <3.0%). At the lower retene concentration, retene in the worms was undetectable in the high-SOC sediment. Based on final retene present …
Distraction of cyclists: how does it influence their risky behaviors and traffic crashes?
2018
BackgroundUndisputedly, traffic crashes constitute a public health concern whose impact and importance have been increasing during the past few decades. Specifically, road safety data have systematically shown how cyclists are highly vulnerable to suffering traffic crashes and severe injuries derived from them. Furthermore, although the empirical evidence is still very limited in this regard, in addition to other human factors involved in cycling crashes, distractions while cycling appear to be a major contributor to the road risk of cyclists.ObjectivesThe main objectives of this study were, first, to explore the prevalence and trends of cycling distractions within an international sample o…

Ecoviles a Espanya: buscant una transformació social emancipadora?
2020
Challenges of translation process research at the workplace
2014
Translation usually takes place at translators’ workplaces, yet much translation process research refers to data collected under controlled conditions such as the classroom or the lab. Pursuant with recent descriptions of translation as a situated activity comes the necessity of investigating that activity where and when it occurs. Many of the methods that have proved useful in the lab have also been applied in the field, and some of the challenges associated with investigating translation at the workplace are common to any kind of empirical translation research. However, certain workplace constraints present special challenges to everyone involved. Some solutions that were developed for a …
La intervenció de la/treballador/a social sanitari a la Comunitat Valenciana
2012
The purpose of this document is to provide both, professionals and citizens, with information about the procedures and processes of intervention developed by social workers within the different health institutions of the Community of Valencia. It is important to identify the specificity of Social Work in the Health Care System in order to consolidate Professional Identity from the homogeneity in the processes and procedures of intervention and the identification of the duties carried out by these professionals in the different health institutions/services of the Community of Valencia.
