The Dehesa of the Saler forms a part of the Albufera lagoon, the most problematic, and in the same time, the most emblematic space of the Valencian landscape heritage. Its analysis might not be separated from a historical polyphonic construction, woven…
On the Correlation and Ergodic Properties of the Squared Envelope of SOC Rayleigh Fading Channel Simulators
2012
Published version of an article in the journal: Wireless Personal Communications. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11277-011-0493-2 In this paper, we investigate the correlation and ergodic properties of the squared envelope of a class of autocorrelation-ergodic (AE) sum-of-cisoids (SOC) simulation models for mobile Rayleigh fading channels. Novel closed-form expressions are presented for both the ensemble and the time autocorrelation functions (ACFs) of the SOC simulation model’s squared envelope. These expressions have been derived by assuming that the SOC model’s inphase and quadrature (IQ) components have arbitrary autocorrelation and cross-correlation pr…
Effects of simulated environmental changes on growth and growth form in a late snowbed population of pohlia wahlenbergii (Web. et Mohr) Andr
2003
In a factorial field experiment we increased the temperature (Open Top Chambers) and nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium [NPK]) to simulate predicted future climate changes and studied the growth response of the acrocarpous bryophyte Pohlia wahlenbergii (Bryaceae) in a wet snowbed environment. The species shows a positive growth-length response to added nutrients and increased temperature. The stronger response to nutrients indicates a strong limitation of nutrients in the snowbed environment. There was an immediate response to nutrient treatment, whereas the temperature response was delayed. The growth response shows a clear interaction between temperature and nutrients. The imm…
Professional thinking in Individual Plan processes
2014
This article explores the kind of critical and reflective thinking taht influences the social and health care professionals in the Individual Plan process. An inter-professional group of six healthcare and social researchers collected the data, which consisted of indepth interviews with 12 service providers who were the clients´ coordinators and one day centre leader. By focusing on reflective thinking in a critical perspective, it is concluded that coordinators are guided by different philosophical and theoretical perspectives in this process; a mixture of reasoning strategies, caring as a relational concept and a mixture of philosophical frameworks. To improve critical thinking in Individ…
Suitability of the VOF Approach to Model an Electrogenerated Bubble with Marangoni Micro-Convection Flow
2022
When a hydrogen or oxygen bubble is created on the surface of an electrode, a micro-convective vortex flow due to the Marangoni effect is generated at the bottom of the bubble in contact with the electrode. In order to study such a phenomenon numerically, it is necessary to be able to simulate the surface tension variations along with a liquid-gas interface, to integrate the mass transfer across the interface from the dissolved species present in the electrolyte to the gas phase, and to take into account the moving contact line. Eulerian methods seem to have the potential to solve this modeling. However, the use of the continuous surface force (CSF) model in the volume of fluid (VOF) framew…
The study of climate change in Primary Education: an exploration from Social Science textbooks in the Valencian Community
2020
Disentangling human from natural factors: Taphonomical value of microanatomical features on archaeological wood and charcoal assemblages
2020
International audience; Archaeobotanical charcoal and wood analyses rely on the observation of different macro and microanatomical features affecting wood structure to variable extents. These features may result from a wide range of intrinsic and extrinsic factors alluding to different stages of the wood's taphonomical history: initial growth conditions, human selection, transformation/use and discard, post-depositional processes and archaeological sampling strategies. Papers in this volume address taphonomy in this broad sense, through recent methodological work mainly based on experimentation and case studies from a variety of chrono-cultural and geographical contexts. The authors present…
Reward and punishment: investigating cortico-bulbar excitability to disclose the value of goods
2013
A continuing challenge for neuroscientists is to develop new conceptual tools and methodologies for understanding, predicting and modelling the influences of rewarding/punishing outcomes on human behaviour and decision making. Reinforcement shapes behaviours from the most primitive (fight/flight, ingest/regurgitate, approach/avoid) to complex (buy/sell). Understanding the neural processes underlying reinforcement is critical for understanding economic and social decision-making. Moreover, comprehension of deranged processing and responses to reinforcing stimuli is crucial across a range of psychology fields and society as a whole, including psychiatric and neurological illness, eating disor…
Applying the Identity Status Paradigm to Managers’ Moral Identity
2019
We investigated the applicability of the identity status paradigm in identifying different stages of moral identity maturity among managers, focusing on how they solve moral conflicts in the context of work. Researchers conducted two theory-driven studies. Study 1 was based on focus group discussions among 16 managers, while Study 2 was based on open-ended questionnaire items from 180 managers. Both studies supported the hypothesized identity statuses. The status named diffusion included a lack of commitment to moral values and associated with avoiding moral questions at work. In foreclosure, extrinsic (e.g., organizational) values were adopted and applied to personal decision-making. Manag…
