Synchrony and asynchrony are essential aspects of the functioning of interconnected neuronal cells and networks. New information on neuronal synchronization can be expected to aid in understanding these systems. Revealing community structures by ensemble clustering using group diffusion

We propose an ensemble clustering approach using group diffusion to reveal community structures in data. We represent data points as a directed graph and assume each data point belong to single cluster membership instead of multiple memberships. The method is based on the concept of ensemble group diffusion with a parameter to represent diffusion depth in clustering. The ability to modulate the diffusion-depth parameter by varying it within a certain interval allows for more accurate construction of clusters. Automatic detection of hemangiomas using unsupervised segmentation of regions of interest

In this paper we compare the performances of three automatic methods of identifying hemangioma regions in images: 1) unsupervised segmentation using the Otsu method, 2) Fuzzy C-means clustering (FCM) and 3) an improved region growing algorithm based on FCM (RG-FCM). For each image, the starting point of the algorithms is a rectangular region of interest (ROI) containing the hemangioma. For computing the performances of each method, the ROIs had been manually labeled in 2 classes: pixels of hemangioma and pixels of non-hemangioma. Bioconjugation of RNA is a dynamic field recently reinvigorated by a surge in research on post-transcriptional modification. This work focuses on the bioconjugation of 4-thiouridine, a nucleoside that occurs as a post-transcriptional modification in bacterial RNA and is used as a metabolic label and for cross-linking purposes in eukaryotic RNA. A newly designed coumarin compound named 4-bromomethyl-7-propargyloxycoumarin (PBC) is introduced, which exhibits remarkable selectivity for 4-thiouridine. Dual role of the RNA helicase DDX5 in post-transcriptional regulation of Myelin Basic Protein in oligodendrocytes

In the central nervous system, oligodendroglial expression of Myelin Basic Protein (MBP) is crucial for the assembly and structure of the myelin sheath. MBP synthesis is tightly regulated in space and time, particularly on the post-transcriptional level. We have identified the DEAD-box RNA helicase DDX5 (alias p68) in a complex with Mbp mRNA in oligodendroglial cells. Expression of DDX5 is highest in progenitor cells and immature oligodendrocytes, where it localizes to heterogeneous populations of cytoplasmic ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes associated with Mbp mRNA in the cell body and processes.
