Modeling RISC-V Processor in IP-XACT

2018

IP-XACT is the most used standard in IP (Intellectual Property) integration. It is intended as a language neutral golden reference, from which RTL and HW dependent SW is automatically generated. Despite its wide popularity in the industry, there are practically no public and open design examples for any part of the design flow from IP-XACT to synthesis. One reason is the difficulty of creating IP-XACT models for existing RTL projects. In this paper, we address the issues by modeling the PULPino RISC-V microprocessor that is written in SystemVerilog (SV) and the project distributed over several repositories. We propose how to solve the mismatching concepts between SV project and IP-XACT, and…

Dades massives i estadística: La perspectiva d'un estadístic

2014

Concurrent Molecular Dynamics Simulation of ST2 Water on a Transputer Array

1988

Abstract A concurrent implementation of a Molecular Dynamics program for ST2 water molecules is presented, which exploits the great potentialities of the Transputer arrays for statistical mechanical calculations. High load-balance efficiency is obtained using a new task decomposition algorithm which evenly distributes particles and interaction calculations among the processors. This approach can also help to solve efficiently the more general problem of task distribution in parallel computing of symmetric pairwise system properties.

An Automatic HEp-2 Specimen Analysis System Based on an Active Contours Model and an SVM Classification

2019

The antinuclear antibody (ANA) test is widely used for screening, diagnosing, and monitoring of autoimmune diseases. The most common methods to determine ANA are indirect immunofluorescence (IIF), performed by human epithelial type 2 (HEp-2) cells, as substrate antigen. The evaluation of ANA consist an analysis of fluorescence intensity and staining patterns. This paper presents a complete and fully automatic system able to characterize IIF images. The fluorescence intensity classification was obtained by performing an image preprocessing phase and implementing a Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier. The cells identification problem has been addressed by developing a flexible segmentati…

MATLAB Co-Simulation Tools for Power Supply Systems Design

2011

ion level. Circuit simulation software as Powersim PSIM and Orcad Pspice are the most common choice for circuit modelling. In (Basso, 2008), the design and simulation of switchmode power supplies is deeply analyzed and simulation tips in several environments are proposed. ASIC simulation and verification tools as Xilinx ISE/Modelsim or Aldec ActiveHDL are available to implement the digital controller by the VHDL or VERILOG source code. Since the interaction between subsystems is the most common source of faults, testing separately analog and digital subsystems by the means of different verification tools is a severe mistake. Matlab is a powerful simulation environment for mixed-mode systems…

NoC Reconfiguration for CMP Virtualization

2011

At NoC level, the traffic interferences can be drastically reduced by using virtualization mechanisms. An effective strategy to virtualize a NoC consists in dividing the network in different partitions, each one serving different applications and traffic flows. In this paper, we propose a NoC reconfiguration mechanism to support NoC virtualization under real scenarios. Dynamic reassignment of network resources to different partitions is allowed in order to NoC dynamically adapts to application needs. Evaluation results show a good behavior of CMP virtualization.

An Unsupervised Method for Suspicious Regions Detection in Mammogram Images

2015

Over the past years many researchers proposed biomedical imaging methods for computer-aided detection and classification of suspicious regions in mammograms. Mammogram interpretation is performed by radiologists by visual inspection. The large volume of mammograms to be analyzed makes such readings labour intensive and often inaccurate. For this purpose, in this paper we propose a new unsupervised method to automatically detect suspicious regions in mammogram images. The method consists mainly of two steps: preprocessing; feature extraction and selection. Preprocessing steps allow to separate background region from the breast profile region. In greater detail, gray levels mapping transform …

A one class KNN for signal identification: a biological case study

2009

The paper describes an application of a one class KNN to identify different signal patterns embedded in a noise structured background. The problem becomes harder whenever only one pattern is well-represented in the signal; in such cases, one class classifier techniques are more indicated. The classification phase is applied after a preprocessing phase based on a multi layer model (MLM) that provides preliminary signal segmentation in an interval feature space. The one class KNN has been tested on synthetic and real (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) microarray data in the specific problem of DNA nucleosome and linker regions identification. Results have shown, in both cases, a good recognition rate.

Exploring FPGA Based Lock-in Techniques for Brain Monitoring Applications

2017

Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) systems for e-health applications usually suffer of poor signal detection mainly due to a low end-to-end signal to noise ratio of the electronics chain. Lock-In Amplifiers (LIA) historically represent a powerful technique helping to improve performances in such circumstances. In this work it has been designed and implemented a digital LIA system, based on a Zynq® Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), trying to explore if this technique might improve fNIRS system performances. More broadly, FPGA based solution flexibility has been investigated, with particular emphasis applied to digital filter parameters, needed in the digital LIA, and i…
