Scientific networks and research groups development: educational Psychology case in Spain during the five-year periods 2004-2008 and 2009-2013
2017
Cut and post-cut herbage management affects berseem clover seed yield.
2013
The seed yield of berseem clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) is usually obtained from regrowth after forage utilization. In stockless, cereal-growing, or specialized seed farms the forage is not needed and the mowed herbage is seldom marketable. Three different experiments were conducted in a Mediterranean environment to evaluate the effect of returning the cut biomass to the soil/crop on the regrowth, seed yield, and seed quality of berseem clover. Different forms of cut and post-cut management were examined, in which the time of cutting, the amount of biomass returned to the crop/soil, and the size of the returned material (unchopped or chopped) all varied. In addition, the effect of the …
Reproductive and developmental phenomena in annelids: a source of exemplary research problems
1999
Specific traits of reproduction, of early and postembryonic development and of sexual maturation in annelids are reported, and the existing and expected contributions to this field from the study of annelids are discussed. The study of early development, as in other spiralians, reveals the existence of canonical cleavage patterns and the combined action of antithetical principles, namely determination by stereotypic sorting-out of ‘determinants’ and determination depending upon the interactions between the blastomeres. A high potential of information about the processes of metameric trunk segment formation and of segment specification has only begun to be exploited in annelids. Epitoky, the…
Description of Dynamic Structured Scenes by a SOM/ARSOM Hierarchy
2001
A neural architecture is presented, aimed to describe the dynamic evolution of complex structures inside a video sequence. The proposed system is arranged as a tree of self-organizing maps. Leaf nodes are implemented by ARSOM networks as a way to code dynamic inputs, while classical SOM's are used to implement the upper levels of the hierarchy. Depending on the application domain, inputs are made by suitable low level features extracted frame by frame of the sequence. Theoretical foundations of the architecture are reported along with a detailed outline of its structure, and encouraging experimental results.
Mapping Economic Activity in the European Union: Do Ownership, Industry and Location Matter?
2020
The paper proposes a new method for analysing the structure and dynamics of economic activity undertaken by locally owned and foreign-owned companies within the European Union. We employ an unsupervised learning algorithm that generates a neural network depicted on Kohonen maps and offering a clustering of companies with a different ownership (local and foreign) from various industries and countries of the European Union during 2009–2016. The research methodology, based on a self-organizing map (SOM) algorithm, belongs to a class of neural networks trained to organize data so that unknown patterns may be discovered, thus leading to results that cannot be attained by more traditional cluster…
Qualitative analysis of goat and sheep production data using self-organizing maps
2009
The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between different small ruminant livestock production systems with different levels of specialization. The analysis is carried out by using the self-organizing map. This tool allows high-dimensional input spaces to be mapped into much lower-dimensional spaces, thus making it much more straightforward to understand any set of data. These representations enable the visual extraction of qualitative relationships among variables (visual data mining), converting the data to maps. The data used in this study were obtained from surveys completed by farmers who are principally dedicated to goat and sheep production. With the self-organizing map …
Measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry of e(+)e(-)-]z-]b(b)over-bar using prompt leptons and a lifetime tag
1995
The forward-backward asymmetry of the process e+e-→Z→b {Mathematical expression} has been measured using events collected by the DELPHI experiment during the 1991 and 1992 LEP runs. This data sample corresponded to 884 000 hadronic Z decays at a centre-of-mass energy {Mathematical expression}. The tagging of b-quark events was performed using two approaches; the first was based on the semileptonic decay channels b→X+μ and b→X+e, the second used a lifetime tag with jet-charge reconstruction. The results of these two methods were combined to give {Mathematical expression} With the semileptonic sample, the forward-backward asymmetry of the process e+e-→Z→ {Mathematical expression} was also mea…
Measurement of the Semileptonic Branching Ratio ofBs0to an Orbitally ExcitedDs**State:Br(Bs0→Ds1−(2536)μ+νX)
2009
In a data sample of approximately 1.3 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector between 2002 and 2006, the orbitally excited charm state D_s1(2536) has been observed with a measured mass of 2535.7 +/- 0.6 (stat) +/- 0.5 (syst) MeV via the decay mode B0_s -> D_s1(2536) mu nu X. A first measurement is made of the branching ratio product Br(b(bar) -> D_s1(2536) mu nu X).Br(D_s1(2536)->D* K0_S). Assuming that D_s1(2536) production in semileptonic decay is entirely from B0_s, an extraction of the semileptonic branching ratio Br(B0_s -> D_s1(2536) mu nu X) is made.
Measurements of Partial Branching Fractions forB¯→Xulν¯and Determination of|Vub|
2008
We present partial branching fractions for inclusive charmless semileptonic B decays (B) over bar -> X(u)l (nu) over bar, and the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-ub vertical bar. The analysis is based on a sample of 383 x 10(6) gamma(4S) decays into B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage rings. We select events using the invariant mass M-X of the hadronic system, the invariant mass squared, q(2), of the lepton and neutrino pair, the kinematic variable P+, or one of their combinations. We then determine partial branching fractions in limited regions of phase space: Delta B = (1.18 +/- 0.09(stat) …
Exclusive Branching-Fraction Measurements of SemileptonicτDecays into Three Charged Hadrons, intoφπ−ντ, and intoφK−ντ
2008
Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 342 fb(-1) collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II electron-positron storage ring operating at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV, we measure B(tau(-)->pi(-)pi(-)pi(+)nu(tau)(ex.K-S(0)))=(8.83 +/- 0.01 +/- 0.13)%, B(tau(-)-> K-pi(-)pi(+)nu(tau)(ex.K-S(0)))=(0.273 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.009)%, B(tau(-)-> K-pi K--(+)nu(tau))=(0.1346 +/- 0.0010 +/- 0.0036)%, and B(tau(-)-> K-K-K+nu(tau))=(1.58 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.12)x10(-5), where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These include significant improvements over previous measurements and a first measurement of B(tau(-)-> K-K-K+nu(tau)) in which no re…
