Behavior Pattern Simulation of Freelance Marketplace
2012
Labour market is expanding rapidly nowadays. Therefore, recruitment processes, namely, the processes of job searching and job offer have become more complicated and there is a strong tendency to automate and integrate it in special freelance marketplaces, i.e. web solutions which seek for the best match for a buyer and seller analyzing the services and items they offer. The aim of the current research is to find possible improvements to the existing system via the implementation of the Multi-Agent-System paradigm. We model the whole marketplace as a continuous process with different agents (freelancers) and propose several behavior models of agents. We analyze different strategies with the …

Economic analysis showed that introducti…
Six-years-long effects of the Italian policies for photovoltaics on the pay-back period of grid-connected PV systems installed in urban contexts
2017
Abstract In this study the discounted pay-back (DPB) period of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems installed in urban contexts was investigated during the course of time with the aim of evaluating the effects of the different supporting policies enacted by the Italian government. The profitability of the investment in three Italian cities was observed from June 2010 to May 2016 by means of an exhaustive economic analysis based on the study of the variation of the costs and benefits during the lifetime of the investment. The analysis considered the disbursements for the PV system devices, maintenance and management, insurance, and wear of PV panels and inverters. Other significant parameters, …

Music festivals as mediators and their influence on consumer awareness
2020
Abstract Cultural products compete for public awareness in markets with high uncertainty, oversupply and a short product life cycle. Altogether, this means that only a small fraction of all releases generate the necessary consumer awareness to achieve a significant commercial success. This paper aims at identifying the informational function music festivals serve in cultural markets and how it translates into consumer discovery of cultural supply. To do so, we empirically measure informational spillover effects to performers at an established music festival. We hypothesize that this effect stems from the reputation attached to the brand equity of cultural organizations, is asymmetric, as it…
Efficiency, endogenous and exogenous credit risk in the banking systems of the Euro area
2005
The implantation of the Euro in 11 of the EU states has driven the big banks to expand their presence in other European countries, which may have negative consequences on their credit risk in view of the disadvantages involved in entering new markets. The aim of this study is to analyse the efficiency and the credit risk of the banks of the most important countries of the Euro area, using a one-stage parametric stochastic procedure that allows one to identify whether the behaviour towards risk of the banks analysed was more cautious or more reckless during the period analysed. The results indicate that adjustments for risk are important in the case of profit efficiency but not in the case o…
Determinants of Banks’ Profitability: Evidence from EU 27 Banking Systems
2015
Abstract In this study we assess the main determinants of banks’ profitability in EU27 over the period 2004-2011. We split the factors that influence bank profitability in two large groups: bank-specific (internal) factors and industry specific and macroeconomic (external) factors. We consider as proxy for banks profitability the return on average assets (ROAA) and the return on average equity (ROAE). The empirical findings are consistent with the expected results. Credit and liquidity risk, management efficiency, the diversification of business, the market concentration/competition and the economic growth have influence on bank profitability, both on ROAA and ROAE. An interesting and valua…

Another Look at Momentum Crashes
2015
This paper studies the profitability of a selection of prominent momentum-based strategies in the European Monetary Union. In contrast to past examples documenting the lack of profitability of unconditional price momentum in the most recent decade, the current research finds that unconditional price momentum yielded significant positive payoffs. There is evidence of option-like behavior for strategies based on intermediate past performance. Surprisingly, there is no such evidence for the momentum strategy based on recent past performance .
