Adiponectin, resistin and leptin in paediatric chronic renal failure: Correlation with auxological and endocrine profiles

Introduction: Chronic renal failure (CRF) compromises nutrition, growth, puberty, glycometabolic homeostasis, and adipokine secretion (i.e. adiponectin, resistin, and leptin). Adipokines play a role in the clinical outcome, but data in paediatric patients is scant. Aim: To evaluate the link between kidney function, adiponectin, resistin, leptin, hormonal status, nutritional state and late outcome of CRF children. Tubular markers are associated with decline in kidney function in proteinuric type 2 diabetic patients.

Our aim was to investigate u-NGAL, u-KIM1 and p-FGF23 and prediction of decline in kidney function in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria.We performed a follow-up study, follow-up median (range) 3.5 (1-5) years. At baseline u-NGAL, u-KIM1 and p-FGF23 (ELISA) was measured and patients were followed yearly with estimated(e)-GFR (MDRD) and u-albumin.We included 177 patients (44 women), mean age (SD) 59 (9) years. eGFR 90 (24) ml/min/1.73 m(2) at baseline, u-albumin: median (interquartile range) 104 (39-238) mg/24 h. Coronary artery disease: Risk stratification and patient selection for more aggressive secondary prevention.

In patients with stable coronary artery disease, clinical outcomes are predominantly characterized by the consequences of atherosclerosis on the myocardium, but also by complications of atherosclerosis, notably recurrent acute coronary syndrome or stroke. Secondary prevention therapy is therefore key in this patient population. Abstract We present a global picture of the natural history of node-negative breast cancer in which two of three important biological processes have outstanding prognostic consequences. We propose that the transition from slow to fast proliferation of the tumor leads to the most dramatic aggravation of prognosis. Circulating cathepsin K and cystatin C in patients with cancer related bone disease: clinical and therapeutic implications.

Abstract The clinical significance of serum cathepsin K and cystatin C was assessed in patients with breast cancer (BCa) or prostate cancer (PCa) with confined disease (M0) or bone metastasis (BM). Cathepsin K and cystatin C circulating levels were determined by ELISAs in 63 cancer patients, in 35 patients with nonmalignant diseases and in 42 healthy blood donors (control group). Thus, cells that express receptors for a given chemokine are attracted to the site of its production.
