On the design of pervasive computing applications based on Bluetooth and a P2P concept

As an example of implementing the pervasive computing, we developed an application framework to deploy an easy, spontaneous, and infrastructureless network. We selected the Bluetooth technology with the peer-to-peer (P2P) concept to develop an experimental application which enables peers to exchange their resources. Overall network architecture and the prototype application are presented. We selected a small test-bed and simulation to evaluate the overall performance and system behaviour. We measured and present our findings in term of the duration of inquiry procedure and the throughput, according to various experimental parameters such as physical distance between nodes and their speeds.

In online games, some players employ programs (bots) that allow them to bypass game routines and effortlessly gain virtual resources. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the tasks through which communication professionals and public relations contribute to organizational decision making. In-depth interviews were conducted with Finnish public relations professionals about how they contribute to organizational decision making. The findings provide a rich picture of the tasks in relation to this. The results show that public relations professionals contribute to organizational decision-making processes by nine different tasks. An Information Systems Design Product Theory for Software Project Estimation and Measurement Systems

There is relatively little research on software Project Estimation and Measurement Systems (PEMS). Commercial PEMS vary in functionality and effective- ness. Their intended users thus do not know what to ex- pect from PEMS and how to evaluate them. This paper creates an information system design product theory for the class of PEMS that prescribes the meta-requirements, the meta-design, and applicable theories for all products within the class. Meta-requirements and the meta-design are derived from the project estimation and measurement literature, experiences obtained during more than ten years of empirical work in Finnish Software Measurement Association, and a commercially available PEMS.

There is limited evidence about gait stability and its alteration by concurrent motor and cognitive tasks in children with cerebral palsy (CP). We examined gait stability and how it is altered by constrained cognitive or motor task in CP and their typically developed (TD) controls. Similarly as in case of trade marks, IGOs have their rises and falls depending on the intensity of their use, character of such usage, and the activity of interested persons. Also as with trade marks, rises and falls of IGOs are characterised in terms of the level of their recognition among consumers influencing the scope of their protection. For these reasons, IGOs may be protected insofar they are capable of fulfilling their function, i.e. to distinguish the geographical origin of goods and services in question. Only when a particular geographical designation fulfils that function of an IGO, it is possible to discuss its protection within any of the protection models of IGOs.
Drug Activity Characterization Using One-Class Support Vector Machines with Counterexamples

The problem of detecting chemical activity in drugs from its molecular description constitutes a challenging and hard learning task. The corresponding prediction problem can be tackled either as a binary classification problem (active versus inactive compounds) or as a one class problem. The first option leads usually to better prediction results when measured over small and fixed databases while the second could potentially lead to a much better characterization of the active class which could be more important in more realistic settings. In this paper, a comparison of these two options is presented when support vector models are used as predictors.
