English writing instruction in Norwegian upper secondary schools

AbstractThis article presents a study of current English writing instruction practices in a selection of Norwegian upper secondary schools and discusses how this draws upon ideas within genre-pedagogy. The data comprises individual and focus-group interviews, observation reports and some teaching material. The study shows that English teachers focus on teaching genre requirements and adjustment of language to task and context. However, despite agreeing on the importance of teaching how to write specific text-types and to adjust to the situation at hand, there seems to be different opinions about how detailed instruction should be. The Spanish system about treatment of foreign laws is regulated in different legal sources including the recent Act 29/2015 on International Legal Cooperation. The inconsistency between the mandatory nature of conflict of laws rules and the burden of parties of proving the foreign law makes the system unsatisfactory in the judicial scope whereas more flexible solutions -and consequently more satisfactory outcomes- can be evidenced in the non-judicial scope. This research approaches both scenarios from a legal and practical perspective and analyses the current solutions and some proposals of improvement.

- This study aims to assess the prevalence of different modes of commuting to school and work for 10-12year-olds and their parents; to assess the associations with demographic variables (country, sex, parental education and ethnicity) and with weight status in eight European countries. We used event-related brain potentials (ERPs) to study effects of selective attention on the processing of attended and unattended spoken syllables and letters. Participants were presented with syllables randomly occurring in the left or right ear and spoken by different voices and with a concurrent foveal stream of consonant letters written in darker or lighter fonts. During auditory phonological and non-phonological tasks, they responded to syllables in a designated ear starting with a vowel and spoken by female voices, respectively.
