Deformation measurement of circular steel plates using projected fringes

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00170-013-5276-3 Fringe projection is a versatile method for mapping the surface topography. In this paper, it is used to measure the deformation of steel plates under static penetration. Here, the surface shape changes continuously. Therefore, it is important to minimize the registration time. To achieve this, we apply a method of fringe location with subpixel accuracy that requires only a single exposure for each registration. This is in contrast to phase shifting techniques that require at least three separate exp…

Implementation to Back-Projection Techniques of Resistivity Data

2005

In order to obtain well contrasted images by back-projection of resistivity data some modifications to the back-projection algorithm as well as the use of filtering techniques for the sensitivity matrix were proposed (Kotre 1994; Cosentino et al. 1998). To further improve the back-projection algorithm a new implementation is here suggested. Besides a subsequent filtering algorithm of the sensitivity coefficient matrix is proposed. It is aimed to increase resistivity contrasts and to reduce smoothness in tomographic final representation. Finally the proposed technique is tested on synthetic data.

Scope Oriented Thermoeconomic analysis of energy systems. Part II: Formation Structure of Optimality for robust design

2010

This paper represents the Part II of a paper in two parts. In Part I the fundamentals of Scope Oriented Thermoeconomics have been introduced, showing a scarce potential for the cost accounting of existing plants; in this Part II the same concepts are applied to the optimization of a small set of design variables for a vapour compression chiller. The method overcomes the limit of most conventional optimization techniques, which are usually based on hermetic algorithms not enabling the energy analyst to recognize all the margins for improvement. The Scope Oriented Thermoeconomic optimization allows us to disassemble the optimization process, thus recognizing the Formation Structure of Optimal…

An original multi-objective criterion for the design of small-scale polygeneration systems based on realistic operating conditions

2008

The optimal design and operation of cogeneration and trigeneration systems for buildings applications is a complex issue, which has been investigated by several different approaches. Both the two basic management strategies, namely heat-tracking and electricity-tracking, have advantages and drawbacks in terms of operating results and may lead the plant designer either to undersize or oversize the CHP unit with respect to the optimal lay-out. Experimental works have demonstrated how the actual on-site performance of small-scale polygeneration systems significantly differs from their expected operation, due to the need for a regular plant operation and the effects of outages for scheduled or …

Retrieving Quantum Information with Active Learning

2019

Active learning is a machine learning method aiming at optimal design for model training. At variance with supervised learning, which labels all samples, active learning provides an improved model by labeling samples with maximal uncertainty according to the estimation model. Here, we propose the use of active learning for efficient quantum information retrieval, which is a crucial task in the design of quantum experiments. Meanwhile, when dealing with large data output, we employ active learning for the sake of classification with minimal cost in fidelity loss. Indeed, labeling only 5% samples, we achieve almost 90% rate estimation. The introduction of active learning methods in the data a…

A generalized model of human body radiative heat exchanges for optimal design of indoor thermal comfort conditions

2018

Abstract Human thermal sensation depends heavily on radiative exchanges between the human body and the surrounding environment. Because these exchanges play a crucial role in the thermal balance of the human body, about 35% of the process, human thermal sensation should draw the attention of planners when designing both indoor environments and equipment. The present study aims to contribute to this field by proposing a procedure for delineating the optimal comfort conditions for occupants in most of the articulate and realistic configurations of actual indoor environments. Specifically, this procedure enables accurate assessment of the radiant field surrounding a subject in a given indoor r…

A hybrid algorithm for planning public charging stations

2014

International audience; Green mobility solutions are receiving currently an enormous attention. Indeed, during last years, electric vehicles, being part of the field of the smart-grid, entered the automobile market of the whole world. This technology requires an effective deployment of charging stations of electric refill since the main problem in this system remains over the duration of refill of the batteries. In this work, we propose an optimized algorithm to locate electric charging stations. The main task of the algorithm is to find the best site of charging stations locations so as to minimize loss on the way to the charging station, as well as minimize investment cost, we take into a…

Structural Dynamics and Intentional Governance in Strategic Interorganizational Network Evolution: A Multilevel Approach

2016

This article aims to shed light on the drivers underlying the role and scope of intentional governance of the structural dynamics of whole interorganizational networks. Prior research has distinguished networks that are emergent from networks that are orchestrated. While empirical studies have shown situations in which the role and scope of intentional governance of whole interorganizational networks has changed in time, and there is a growing interest regarding the endogenous drivers of network dynamics, the dimensions that influence intentional governance of network structure dynamics and the way this is carried out remain still to be elucidated. In order to pinpoint these drivers, we le…

Talent management and organizational commitment: the partial mediating role of pay satisfaction

2020

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to better understand the role of pay satisfaction and employee perception of talent management in business loyalty strategies, which implies considering both economic and non-economic variables in order to achieve organizational success.Design/methodology/approachResults from a survey of 198 workers were analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM) based on three constructs (confirmatory factor analysis, CFA). The scales used were: employee perception of talent management, pay satisfaction, and organizational commitment. Pay satisfaction acts as a mediating variable in the significant relationship between the perception of talent management and orga…
